Check that the pads that activate the interior light switch are in place - if not it can cause similar problems.

The pads on the lower edge of each door also activate the central locking mechanism when they push the plunger into the sill.

Have a look at the door solenoid (pull the carpet back from the door pillar behind the seat). Mine was doing this and I found the solenoid casing was opening up and the gear wheels inside not engaging properly. A couple of cable ties fixed it. Probably not this if both doors are doing it though.

Pulled the carpet back and found a plunger type device , is this the solenoid?
This is where the noise is coming from, also does it when i unlock the car?

Yes that's the solenoid (there are 2 of them (one locks/unlocks the other opens)) be interested to hear what happens because mine does the same,

If you disconect the locking solenoid on mine all is quiet again (can't lock the car though) been meaning to get around to changing it to see it it makes a difference

Let us know how you get on

Ben ... how does the lock solenoid do its job? I wonder why they didn't make a "lock" by just electrically disabling the door-opening-solenoid rather than having a second lock mechanism?

Because then they couldn't just re-use a parts bin door catch.

The solenoids are £7 from Maplins. I'd just replace it if I were you. I've got one in mine and it's great.

Mad isn't it, you can easily see how it works by lifting the velcro flap. The old model (with the push catch) needed a lock so I guess they just added a release soleniod rather than redesigning the 'lectrics
