Transmission shunt
Discussion
Any ideas?
I seem to be getting rather a lot of transmission shunt.
Anyone know what causes this?
Is it anything to worry about?
I can stop it happening by slipping the clutch a bit but dont want to wear the clutch out.
All thought's greatfuly recieved.
P.S. Nothing found in previous threads.

he engine should be happy to pootle along in gear down to somewhere between 2000 and 1500 revs (it varies from car to car and sometimes from day to day). If you're taking it lower than that, drop down a gear instead. Better for you (more control over acceleration/engine braking) and better for the car. If it's happening above that it may be the fuel or ignition system slightly out of wack (technical term!) causing rough running. So many possibilities it is hard to advise where to start, other than taking it to a professional. If you have lots of play in the transmission or worn diff bushes this can make drive line shunt much more of a problem.
I just changed the engine mounts on a Chimaera on Friday. The old mounts were cracked and perished especially the nearside one which sits directly above the exhaust and gets toasted. Fitting new mounts has transformed the car - no more transmission shunt, super smooth gearchanges, no clutch judder, it even feels more powerful (although logic tells me this cannot be so). Mounts cost around £100 the pair from TMS which seemed like poor value until I drove the car after fitting them. Fitting is a bit fiddly - I have an inspection pit which helped a lot, but you're probably better off getting a dealer to do it, unless you're exceptionally tight-fisted (like me).
