Have fun but remember, policemen do lie and when they do it can cost you heavily.

Off-duty plod in his own car said I filtered between him and another car well in excess of the speed limit on the M11. I didn't.

No evidence. No witnesses. My word against his. Just cost me £6,200 in total.

Bad luck mate. That's been knocking around for ages hasn't it? Why the huge bill? Your own defence costs?

That really sucks frown how can an off duty copper tell you're speeding??????? (do they carry around calibrated speed detection equipment?)

Hope you get back on 2 wheels sooner rather than later, you'll miss it.

I've already made the decision not to get another bike. May seem a bit hasty to some of you but I've spent a lot of time and money on further training since I was 20. Never had an accident, never had so much as a parking ticket but on the whim of angry copper, I get stung massively without recourse.

I can't afford for it to happen again.

I think you'll find that they are never off duty even when they are if you see what I mean............the judge would always count a coppers word as gospel and put his words before joe public's.as in the judges mind the copper is a trusted person.....yeah right!!!

Rawwr, unlucky mate I feel for you....best wishes for the future.

This doesn't add up. Did they convict on the basis of his statement alone?

Yes.

I cited my advanced training, I pointed out two distinct physical flaws in his statement, had a written statement from my RoSPA examiner detailing my 'well above average' ability, I gave detailed and clear answers to the court without hesitation where the police officer stumbled. I pointed out that in 10 years of driving tricky peformance cars and bikes I hadn't been in any trouble with the police or had a single accident. I pointed out that I although I'd only been riding for 2 years (to the day, actually), I had covered over 26,000 miles which is well above the national average.

My solicitor pointed out it was impossible to prove 'beyond reasonable doubt', he tapped a couple of holes in his statement and made him backtrack on two points.

Everything was perfect until the senile rabble behind the bench decided that I was inexperienced and wasn't trained as highly as the police officer. But, and this is my favourite bit, because I might be telling the truth, they only gave me 3 points on my licence instead of 6. I really considered adding contempt of court to my charges by asking them 'What THE is "a bit guilty" and how does that work?!'.

I have 21 days to appeal for a crown court hearing but I simply cannot afford to lose again.

Absolutley gutted for you mate, I had a similar miscarrige of justice but that was only 3 points and 60 quid. Incidents like this can wipe out the good work that the Police do in one failed swoop, and bring our confidence down in them. Keep your chin up and dont let them get you down!!

Fine, court costs (x2) and my solicitor's fees.
