Phone upgrade broken already

I upgraded my phone to a sony ericsson W880i about 3 months ago, but already it has started playing up. now when i try to connect the charger it only sometimes registers its there and starts to charge, and then after 30 seconds will stop charging. i have'nt got phone insurance that im aware of, and im in an 18 month contract. what are my options....

Years warranty, take it back to the shop and get a new one.
Assuming you didn't drop it heavily/down toilet/eaten by small child etc. etc.

Well it might of accidentally got kicked around a few club floors in magaluf last week!

dust it off and take it into the shop, warranty as mentioned will cover it

I didnt buy it from a shop, it was 02 online i got it from! was only joking about kicking it around the clubs by the way! haha!. will they send me a new phone?

Have you tried taking the battery out and putting it back in? My K1 Razr sometimes behaves oddly with the charger, and this does help.

yep all warranty issues get sorted through the o2 shops.

Common problem with the Sony phones - have you tried cleaning the contacts on the phone?

yeh, i tried that with a toothbrush but still does'nt work! tried my friends charger and still had the same problem.

Mine won't charge from the mains charger now, but oddly will via USB charger. (Had it 2 years though)

Actually the biggest problem with charging Sony phones is with the charger lead connector. It's very common to find that one of the spring loaded metal prongs gets bent and doesn't connect properly when it's pushed onto the phone - so it's not recognized and doesn't get charged. So take a careful look, it might save you a bunch of hassle.
