got my 4.2 3 weeks ago and have done 900 miles - used it everyday so far. Parked it last night with windows open and alarm not on - this evening, drivers door wouldn't open from the outside. Put alarm on and off a few times, turned immobiliser on and off - no difference - done a search but nothing definitive as to how to fix it - any ideas or is the switch on the outside knackered - any advice would be appreciated.

Generally the first port of call is to disconnect the control box in the boot for a couple of minutes then reconnect and see if the fault has cleared. Assuming that does not fix it:-

Does the Passenger door Open OK? If not I might suspect the Dead lock switch on the transmission tunnel, it disables the outside switches until the doors are opened from the inside.

Assuming the passenger door opens OK then I would check to see if the drivers door opens from the inside. If it does then I would suspect the door switch or connections back to the control box in the boot.

I know there is a motion sensor which is supposed to lock out the door switches when the car is moving. I guess there may be a fault there but probably only if none of the door switches work.

You can remove the inner skin of the door to gain access to the switch by removing the allen screws. RS stock the switches if you find it to be bad.

RS are "Radio Spares" RSwww.com.

If you do find the switch to be bad I have Blue coloured ones here at the office, we just happen to use them on equipment we build. We also use the steering wheel / electric window switches but only in Red Green and Yellow. Let me know if you get stuck for one, I can drop one in the mail

My drivers door switch has started doing the same thing, sometimes working, sometimes not. WD40 seemed to help.

Assuming the switch does need replacing, how does one get at it? Does the mirror need to come off the door?

When you take the panel off, which connector is the one for the internal door opening switch?
