If you have ever been to the High Heavens scrap man in Booker, near High Wycombe, you will be sorry to hear that it is closing. byebye In fact it might have already done so - I was there last week for a housing for my daughter's Mondeo indicator and the big heap of cars was virtually gone and the containers with alternators and other bits in were all that was left. What will the car owners of High Wycombe do now for a parts supplier? wobble

I see you're a fellow Pinto/Westfield owner. I got an alternator up there a while back, plus one or two other bits for SEiW/Pinto.

I am at present, but trying to sell it to free the garage for a self build (with able assistance from Fer Jr.). Yes, that scrappy was pretty impressive. I even managed to get motors for the pop up lights on my old X1/9 up there a few years back.

cry

I have happy memories of digging around for bits in there when I first started driving back in the late 80s and early 90s. I wonder if there is any scrappy in the country today which would let the customer climb up three or more cars off the ground to liberate the rear light cluster from an old Astra for themselves biggrin It always used to be a case of digging around to find what you wanted, ripping it out, then going to ask for the price. laugh

I miss the days of rummaging around in scrappies looking for random bits that always seemed to fall off....there used to be a couple of them in Colnbrook that I would spend all day in just wandering around.

A1 Car spares in Wokingham still let you climb all over the cars and pick off your own bits. Usually have a nice selection of classics as well.

Last time i went earlier this year they also still had my old Cavalier GSi which was srapped there over two years ago!!

I found an RX7 in a scrappy in Arborfield and went back to the cabin to ask if I could borrow some wire cutters to liberate a heater conrol box. Without speaking or looking down the chap brought out from under the counter a huge, manacing carving knife and as he handed it to me , I could swear I heard him thinking out loud that it wouldn`t hurt to have another set of prints on the handle........yikes...cop...judge.....

It has recently (in the last few years) caught fire quite a few times. Whether it was always arson I don't know....

Shame if it does close as it used to have a reasonable selection ranging from old to fairly new cars. Plus the parts removal process was always fun if you went with a mate.

There's Saunderton Salvage in Saunderton, though I think they specialise in French stuff now, other than that ASM in Aylesbury.
