To be fair on Martin, he certainly threw her around departing Manchester Airport on Saturday, he had her well over 90 degrees, and a high powered climb.
That pretty well describes her last fly-by return over at Cosford too, that wingover had her almost horizontal in the turn out before he recovered her down and flat heading easterly to EMA

Altogether a great salute to the dear old bird's colleagues inside the Cold War Exhibit

Were most people emotional with these final flybys?

Note: I must see the old bird in the air this year.
No, no, no, but Elvington was very dry and dusty.

No but when she left Waddington someone next to me cut an onion in half....

Watched her pass over Cottesmore on her way down to Bruntingthorpe she did one nice circuit of the old base which was nice as it was only supposed to be a transit pass.

Then a quick dash to Waddington to watch her perform a pretty much full display This pictures the best of 167 shots!

The Light was certainly challenging but pleased to get a bit of history.

Went to Robin Hood Airport for her return, and was treated to a spirited frolic around the sky, with a lovely howl and climb out, then a gentle touch down , followed by a nose up aerodynamic braking session along three quarters of the runway, and i think someone was peeling onions near me as well..... wink

Apologies in advance if my questions are utterly stupid and the answers are on the Vulcan to the sky web site.

XH558 is scheduled to display at Shoreham & Bournemoth on 23rd August. What time would XH558 depart from and return Robin Hood Airport? As I will be back in the UK for 2 weeks around that time I think I owe it to myself to try and see the old lady fly.

Depends on her display slots at the venue's - probably too early to know yet, last year she did Shoreham quite late in the afternoon. Keep an eye on the 558 website or sign up to there Twitter feed for more accurate timings nearer the day.

The airshows (especially the free ones by the sea) like to have her as late as possible in the afternoon to keep people there, otherwise everyone would just leave as soon as she has displayed. She is what everyone wants to see

Saw her in Weston at 5pm (last display) the other week and thousands waited to see her and then there was a huge stampede out of the area.

I rocked up to Bruntingthorpe on Saturday as I planned to visit the museum whilst I was in the area and had some time to kill. Little did I know, the museum only opens on Sunday! Thankfully, the security man told me that the Vulcan was due to make an appearance on Sunday.

Went back on Sunday and arrived about five minutes before the plane did. What a sight (and noise)!

Managed to witness a piece of aviation history pretty much by mistake as I had no idea it was making its last flights over the weekend smile

Edited to add crappy camera phone video link - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OFBDhh8QHwo

It wasn't making it's last flights over the weekend...... it was just a final farewell tour/salute over all the remaining other static Vulcans and Vulcan related sites in the UK.

Good article about the Vulcan and the Falkland war. Tornado was meant to replace it.

though that was the TSR2's role?

(canned in favour of the F-111 that was subsequently canned! - then the Blackburn Buccaneer, McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II and finally the Tornado!)

No - TSR2 was designed primarilly as a replacement for the Canberra. The Canberra was looked on as a tactical rather than a strategic bomber. The "T" in TSR2 stood for "Tactical".

The replacement for the Vulcan in the strategic nuclear strike role was the Polaris missile.

So that confirms that the wedding photo is at the very least "mirrored"

Wedding photo shows the underside, not the top
