you're not wrong.

F35,

Plan - lets save money by making 1 plane for 3 jobs

outcome - end up with a plane that does none of the roles well, costs 100X more than budget and never actually works.no one wants

Saw that. What is the fella looking into in the rear? I assume its an optical device for some reason.

A little late, I admit, but having been to RIAT for the first time on Sunday and doing so entirely due to XH558 being there, I was blown away by the whole event.

Without a doubt though, The Vulcan was the star and although the photos I took fail to really do justice to the magnificence of the plane and the show, I think these couple do show how massively she will be missed by the public....

...and the by now standard shot with the Reds :

It's a periscope which can look above and below the aircraft. Normally used as a visual check that the gear is up.

Like other countries (Sweden for example) perhaps it's time the BBMF became the Historic Flight, with some real funding from the MP's to support it. The supporting organisations have little financial motivation to support VTTS, but would have a lot more if the RAF /UK Government were asking.
The BBMF is Government backed, as it is an active part of the RAF, they are in effect an "Historic Flight"

While I would like to see 558 maintained for flight indefinitely, it's just too expensive. A shame, but that we have had her for 7+ years is testament to the hard work put in, and being retired to taxi conditions is the next best thing.

I watched RIAT on Planestv.com (a great £10 spent) I got to see all the show from the comfort of being at home. It doesn't beat being there, but, a good 2nd

Sean Maffett. He's a well known airshow commentator and is actually part of the Vulcan to the Sky team:

The last time I heard it (or very similar) was at my Mum's funeral.

Are any plans in place to do something a bit special (such as the V Force Tour) for her last flight? It seems odd that it would just do it's final display then fly home, particularly as they aren't exactly going to be able to allow a large attendance at Robin Hood. I'm hoping for something like the last flight of Concorde.

The last display confirmed is Goodwood revival on Sep 12th though there is quite a lot of other aviation stuff happening that weekend. There may be others after that which are TBC but thats quite late in the year. I'd be surprised if it didnt do Southport the following weekend...

Havent heard anything about its final flight/routing though, I guess its all still being worked
