her final flight is being planned
'So that as many people as possible can see XH558 on one of her final flights, we are planning a spectacular cross-country tour across a Saturday and Sunday in October. The total cost will be around £75,000, so before we can press the button, we need to know it can be funded. We’ve put together our most impressive rewards package yet for those who help make this amazing weekend happen, giving you an opportunity to receive something special in return for helping XH558 take to the skies for one final, celebratory tour.'

Can someone recommend a good view point at Finningley where I can take my 95 year old Grandad to watch XH558 takeoff/land?
Ideally we could watch from the car (he's virtually unable to walk) although a few meters on foot would be fine.
He's in Doncaster, but I'll be heading up from the south coast so largely unfamiliar with the roads around the airport.
Thanks.

Best bet is to view from old bawtry road down the Austerfield end, off the roundabout there's a dirt track and you can get down the side of the runway at the wire fence. It'll be busy but it's a good view from the side. You'll only be a few hundred feet from the plane too.Ideally we could watch from the car (he's virtually unable to walk) although a few meters on foot would be fine.

Thanks very much! Appreciate you taking the time to respond. The Vulcan has had trouble lowering and locking down it's nose gear.
It has just landed safely at Prestwick.

Much respect for these chaps (Vulcan and BBMF Spitfire). This is what professionalism and airmanship are all about. Unflappable, not a hint of panic, despite the pressure. Might give 'em a few grey hairs, but ultimately they got the aircraft down without so much as a scratch on it.
