On the trip back from LM had a bit of an erratic temp guage to say the least. Bumps would cause the guage to drop to nowt and then back to 90ish etc. When stuck in traffic the fan cut in and I checked the levels to ensure tht there was water in the system (and not in with the oil!

Can anyone tell me where the sensor for the temp guage is? I think I must have a wiring gremlin somewhere in the system, help!

No problems. Check first that it isn't just a loose connection as the sensor end is just "push fit". The sensor is located on the front of the inlet manifold above the thermostat on the near side. There are two sensors one for the gauge and one for the ECU. The one you want has a single threaded contact coming out of it (the same as you would see on the LT connections of the ignition coil). Be careful when choosing a replacement as they come in different resistances . Make sure you get one that has the same colour insulation between the body and contact post and you'll be fine .

cheers for that, always a bit stressful not knowing exactly how 'happy' the engine is!
