A couple of months ago, the power supply to my comp went pop. AS it was a old computer, I thought it was a good excuse to get a new one. Rather than lose all of the dat I have bought a 3.5" enclosure for the old hd, I have taken the old hd out and installed it no problem, my new computer is pocking the drive up and letting me access data on the drive.

However the drive has about 45gb of data on it, but I can only access about 8gb of data on the drive. I wanted all my photos, and music off the old hdd, but for some reaon I can't find any of them.

Any ideas?????

Have you changed the jumpers on the back of the drive so that it becomes a slave drive?

Not likely to be the jumpers re slave or master as that has no bearing on external drives. However one thing that does spring to mind is that was some of the data stored under a password protected user name with access rights? If so it will be very hard to get that.

In the past I have tried booting the PC with linux (from a cd) and than copying the data off the hard drive as necessary to an external drive

Can you refit the hard drive into the new computer, and boot from that hard drive in safe mode to access the info?

The data I am after, photos & music was just saved in my documents. There was no password protection or login when I signed on to windows. I am now using a lap top so I can't just swap hard drives.

Sorry for all the negative replies! Thanks for the help. I will go in search of a old pc, and swap hard drives around I think.....

Thankyou for all the replies though. your help is greatly appreciated.

Cheers
