Hi Guys! First post on the forum so please be gentle smile

Just got some general questions about the Audi TT. I work from home, me and my partner both have a small car each but im after something a bit better but finding it very hard to justify as I only do the odd bit driving at a weekend and the odd long distance trip. I really like the older shaped TT as I think its a bit of a classic. If I was using the car all the time I would gladly go and spend £15k on a car but I just simply cant justify it. I have seen a few TT's kicking about for the £8-9k mark that are from 1999 but a bit unsure as to the reliability, high mileage and cost to sort the problems out when they go wrong. If im gonna end up spending on parts im thinking probably better shelling out the £15k which means its a no go move. Just wondering whats peoples thoughts would be on buying a one for about that range and the condition you would expect it to be in? Im only really doing about 6000 miles a year tops now but I really like driving frown Finding it quite hard.

Any thoughts please?

Go for the 225 model.
Check for turbo rattle
Dashboard can fail on these, check to see if it's had Audi recall.
Full Audi history and no more than 80k.
Avoid green!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is my opinion.

Check mafs, O2 sensors, a quick scan of the fault codes is ideal. Clutch heavy? accident dammage.

Good cars, just a few bits to keep an eye on listed earlier in this thread. Especially check for any signs of dial/dashpod playing up. Audi are supposed to pay for a replacement (£600 fitted), but don't take any crap from owners about a temp/fuel sensor playing up, its usually the dashpod.

Look for solid history with lots of oil changes - its a turbocharged engine so oil changes are even more crucial. Also make sure the Haldex oil has been changed every 20k and the filter every 40k (I think). Cambelt at 60k as they do go quite often on 60 - 80k mileage cars (think age of the belt as well as mileage). Make sure waterpump is replaced at same time as cambelt.

Personally I would avoid any car with mods such as lowering, suspension changes and engine upgrades. You can do these things yourself quite cheaply and know the engine/car hasn't been as stressed before you start.

Cheers guys some really good pointers there! I'll start having a dig around on the TT forum. Appreciate the help smile Its a performance car so ive always felt you have to be that bit more wary as it needs taken car of more and obviously some people are lazy and treat it like a standard car.

Thanks again! biggrin

Great cars and no worries. Had mine from new (Year 2000), put 100,000 miles on it in and p/x'ed it in 2005 for a 911. The only reason I got rid of it was because I had it 5 years, I usually keep car's no longer that 2, thats how good it was.

In an X5 now and thats another great car but for me my TT will always be special, looking especially good value at the minute.
