Before buying a car like this, it might be an idea to join the MGOC or MGCC. Then read their magazines for a couple of months, this will give a good idea of prices - over time. It's what I done.
Condition, well it's a lot easier to fix anything mechanical than body wise - so beware of rust. Sills are very important on this car (when aren't they!) and can be a difficult repair to do properly.
Rust where the rear wings meet the body at the top is also a pain to fix.
Condition 1 or 2 cars should be very good so the price sounds good, but does the car truely fall into this class? I wouldn't expect to see any rust on a condition 1 car.
But really, there are lots of MGB's around so take your time.
Good luck

Well now you've done it..
Have you read the MG ownership caveat ??
try this:

MG Adoption Application
1. Are you ready to love this car, unconditionally?
2. Do you realise that you will have to understand almost everything about this car, including the engine, transmission, brakes, carburettors, etc?
3. If you already know about cars, are you willing to learn a whole new vocabulary?
4. Are you willing to associate constantly with other MG owners?
5. Do you know a nearby mechanic, expert about MGs?
6. Are you willing to get greasy? All over?
7. Are you willing to shed blood?
8. Do you realise that this will cost more money than you can sell it for?
9. Do you posses a large vocabulary of four-letter words?
10. Is your spouse or Significant Other an MG lover?
11. Are you familiar with the process for divorce or separation ?
12. Do you have another, more reliable car?
13. Do you have enough garage space? For the car, parts, tools, more parts, etc.?
14. Do you think 'A little rust' is O.K.?
15. Are you willing to drive without musical entertainment so that you can listen for new problems as they develop?
16. Do you think purchasing an MG is a practical decision?
17. Are you on medication?
18. Isn't your relationship with this car just a little unnatural?
