Right of way/signalling in this situation.....

Apologies if this post is an affront to the collective wisdom, but I wonder if somebody could explain to me the rights of way in the following scenario (drawing is not my strong point!)



So, we have an offset crossing over a main road. The minor side roads and major road are two directional and the main road is marked with a yellow box junction. The crossing is traffic light controlled and cars entering the main road are permitted to turn left or right.

My questions are as follows:
Do the cars effectively proceeding 'straight on' (albeit the junction is offset) from either side road, have right of way over cars turning right onto the main road? I had thought this must be the case until I had to avert an accident while heading 'straight across' from the side road at the bottom of the picture. A van turning right from the other direction, did so at such a moment that I had to swing violently left onto the main road in order to avoid T-boning him.

This made me think; is there a level of offset where "straight on" effectively becomes a quick left then right turn or where the rights of way change? Does the fact that both side roads follow the same traffic signal sequence have a bearing on their effectively being the same road (ie 'straight on' applies as opposed to left then right turn)? Finally, when heading 'straight on', on an offset junction, should one signal? I would have thought doing so would be confusing but would welcome your views. Thank you

In my opinion, yes, traffic going "straight" at this junction has priority, because a car approaching from the bottom of your diagram will turn left onto the main road, once on the main road, will have priority over vehicles wishing to enter the main road from another road.

Without knowing the junction difficult to comment, but I would probably be inclined to treat it as a left, then right job.
