Not wishing to ruin somebody's sale just for the heck of it........BUT for sale on EBAY at the moment (10 Oct) is an
ASTON MARTIN VANTAGE V8 - Category "D" accident damaged.

http://cgi.ebay.com/damaged-2006-ASTON-MARTIN-VANT...

This vehicle was MINE.......UNTIL when driving back from the Le Mans 24hour race last June with my mate, we were involved in bad accident.
Sadly the Aston was so badly damaged that it was "written off". Impact speed was about 120mph (combined) - the other vehicle was written off too.
Thankfully & quite unbelievably no-one was hurt.

In my opinion the damage details listed on the EBAY by the advertiser does NOT appear to be complete.

Having had a long conversation with the engineers at Panelwise and the Aston Martin engineers at HWM - it was pointed out that the "Tub" (chassis) is infact "buckled" in TWO places. This item needs replacing. It is a £19000 piece. In addition to this TWO alloy wheels and two tyres need replacing. Suspension (front near side)hub, brake discs, calipers on the same corner need replacement. Ive no idea about the damage to the steering arms, ball joints etc.

By complete coincidence - my mate (who was driving it at the time) was at a car auction last week - he was gobsmacked to see this VERY car up for sale!
My friend questioned as to whether just "patching" the chassis would effect the cars strength and integrity. He was told "No".
What planet are these people from? OF COURSE it will.

I was told it would take 310 hours of labour to repair it. I was also told that the repair costs would be a MINIMUM of @£26k.

PLEASE BEWARE IF PURCHASING THIS VEHICLE.
I AM ONLY HIGHLIGHTING THIS BECAUSE I FEEL EXTREMELY UNCOMFORTABLE THAT SOME UNSUSPECTING BUYER WOULD NOT KNOW THE FULL TRUTH RE THE DAMAGE.

And i certainly dont want anybody stepping into and driving a car that has been "patched"!

I would post a photo or two from the accident......but I don't know how! Doh!!

Cheers

What actually happened in the accident? Seems very light body damage for a 120mph crash!

Picture link below

Andy - Thanks for the advice on getting pictures on this forum.

Mattt - The COMBINED speed was @120mph. i.e we were doing about 60mph....and so was the oncoming vehicle.

09:10 on the Monday after Le Mans - just north of Rouen - having just left our hotel. Sucker punch Im afraid guy's - and "hands up" - we were to blame....didnt see the car coming the other way redface ;getmecoat: I was passenger...my mate was driving....and believe me he did a good job in managing to avoid a full frontal impact...............as you can see the impact was at the front near side wheel.

Im a bit hesitant in giving you the FULL account (after the recent cases of people incriminating themselves on Youtube etc)
................THANKFULLY no-one was injured......and do you know what.....as upsetting as it was to see my Aston lying in bits and on three wheels........the GREATER sense of emotion BY FAR was pure relief that neither us or the other driver was injured at all.

I was gutted and embarrassed about not seeing the vehicle coming the other way. I hadnt been involved in an accident for 20
years plus....when I was in my teens.......but we're not too old to learn.

Anyway....hope the link works to the picture.
Ive spoken to Aston Martin at Gaydon today - informed them of the sale on Ebay....they've taken the VIN Number from me......and also inform me that ONLY approved repair centres can be supplied with "structural" parts.

I don't believe anyone should be driving a "patched up" car!!

Cheers

But surely your Insurance company reported the write off catagory to DVLA when they settled your claim, as they are required to do by law when a car is severely damaged?

Any HPI check would show the truth regardless of what the seller says, and anyone buying an exotic wrecl would surely still HPI it if only to check for o/s finance?

I wouldn't worry too much about it. Caveat emptor...

Shocking is that. So even though you don't want to go into specific details, the rough idea of the accident?

Obviously I wasn't there but my guess is it happened round a corner? Otherwise I don't understand how the wheel could get ripped off.

Surely anyone buying a damaged car, whether on eBay or elsewhere, doesn't believe exactly what the seller says is the precise extent of the damage?

If you buy a damaged car you make your own decision and take a gamble; there is no guarantee of what needs to be done until you start taking it to pieces.

Davi - Nice job posing some questions to the Ebay seller. Unbelievable that they say "it's not too bad, easy to repair" nonorolleyes

If you were to go into the car...pull back the carpet in the footwell.....you would see the buckled chassis redcard

Every single panel down the near side is damaged......I was covered in glass and initially couldnt work out why because the windscreen was intact.....
then I saw the wing-mirror hanging off and the quarter window missing!

As I said, our fault, big lesson......and we're still good friends.

Need to replace it before next years Le Mans!

Cheers

Your friend saw it at auction last week, now its on ebay, my question is how much did it fetch at auction and how does that reflect on the ebay starting price ?

I'm surprised that no one has suggested that it will polish out yet.
