Thinking of a Chimaera??
Discussion
I get around 30 to 34 to the gallon on a long run (N reg 400) and about 5-10 if I push it.
Why the Chimaera? For long trips it is almost as comfortable as my Jag XJ8 was before I sold it, it is a bit noisier though (I have a sports exhaust) and it goes well when pushed.
As for running costs... as mine is an older one I get is services at a specialist (Offord Motor near St Ives) rather than paying dealer prices which keeps the running costs down to about £1000.
As far as a pratical 2 seater sports convertable goes this is it!

chimyellow, I agree The Chimaera is great to run, loves being pushed, but can also handle traffic - mine is a 4.0HC...yes, the clutch is heavy, but it needs to be 'cause of the awesome power available under the right foot The boot is big enough to carry, well, anything (including golf clubs, eh, Scruff??) It's very comfortable on long journeys, too. I drove to Holland 2 summers ago, and it was very comfortable. Go for it!!
Just do it, go and buy one NOW!

I was in the 'should i shouldn't i? will it be too expensive to run? will it be too uncomfortable for long trips?' dillemas. So I test drove a Chim and that made my mind up. I bought one 2 weeks later! No regrets. I never get bored of driving now.
Didn't want to hijack the post, your tape will be in the post tommorow.

1. 20
2. None apart from a service when I got it and petrol from December 'till now. Apart from this Sunday when some twat reversed into it (his cost), a radiator that is now leaking and a rattle on front passengar side wheel. everything happens at once.
3. 20-25 mpg from a Chimaera 500. 270 miles on one tank down to Silverstone and back. Was panicking lots.
4. No one looks or asks about an Elise fine car that they are. Everyone asks or looks at a Chimaera from enthuiasts to school dinner ladies to nice 20 year women!

This is ONLY on a long run when you are not in a hurry and the roads are clear (Cruising)!
I get about 28 to the gallon on shorter trips when I am not pushing it.

I think you will find your odometer is way out! I get around 20/22 on mixed driving, not much more if any on a run because I usually go faster!! Went down to 16 at Rockingham taking the drivers on a s-l-o-w lap and all the idling while waiting etc.
Dodger
I have had the Chim for a month now, so you could put it down to "tentative" driving but I have worked out my mpg and seem to be getting an average of 24.5 after 1200 miles.
This is on a 450, which I guess may be marginally thirstier than a 400?
Handbuilt cars & engines, all different!
