First meeting point will be at Track V Road at 10.00am where tea, coffee, and loo's will be available.
I could do with knowing how many of you will be meeting here so I can arrange the requisite supplies. Track V Road is situated on a quiet industrial estate so there should be no parking problems. We will be leaving there at 11.00am ish to get to Pontins at 12.00 noon.
From the A59, follow the sign for Clitheroe North and Industrial Area on to the Pimlico Link Road, Turn left just after Travis Perkins, then take the next left and follow the road round to the left. Its then facing you.
From Track V road, we will head west along the A59 to the M6. Head North on the M6 and come off at the M55. Go to the very end of the M55 and turn left. At the next roundabout turn right. At the traffic lights at the junction of Progress Way and Common Edge Road, Turn left and follow the road, past the Shovels pub, onto Queensway and then turn right at the second set of traffic lights onto Kilnhouse Lane. Follow this road to a double mini roundabout and sort of go straight over (ie left at the first RA and then right at the second RA) on to Highbury road. At the end of the road, turn right onto the Prom and park up outside Pontins on the single yellow lines.
Since a recent fatal motorcycle accident on the stretch of road outside Pontins, U turns are now illegal. Please ensure that the meeting point is approached from the south. Following the directions below will ensure this.
I could do with knowing how many of you will be going directly to Pontins. Could you please indicate below.
We will leave Pontins at about 13.00, heading North along the Prom. Directions to Bristol Ave below.
Whilst we are on Bristol Ave, please park up neatly so that we do not cause any obstruction to local traffic or the current occupants of the factory.
Surface and Design have very kindly offered to show us around their workshops and also provided tea and coffee. Well done to the lads there. Their place is literally a one minute walk around the corner.
urgent update.(Sunday 28th of October)
I went to Blackpool today to do a recky of the route etc. Unfortunately the Red Lion is building an extension to its hotel and most of its huge car park is now a fenced off building site. I had a chat with the manager (Ben) who informed me that the remainder of the car park will be pretty full on a Saturday afternoon and we will be lucky if we get 10 parking spaces. Can I therefore suggest that we leave our cars on Bristol Ave (outside the ex factory) and walk round to the Red Lion, which is only a 10 minute walk away. There will be extra staff on the bar and in the kitchens to accomodate us so there should be no problem getting served
Oh, and by the way, the local police will be expecting us, so please lets be on our best behaviour.
I have just had a telephone conversation with the local police station in Blackpool. They have warned that anybody found doing "U" turns outside Pontins will be prosecuted. They have also stated that all cars shall be parked legally with no obstruction other road users. They will be monitoring us whilst we are on their patch. Anybody breaking traffic laws will be severely dealt with by the Police. Please observe to the posted speed limits and be courtous to other road users and pedestrians. Also, please be aware that horse drawn vehicles operate in the Blackpool area and therefore extra care should be taken so as not to spook them.
This is not an organised event. All people who choose to join us on this trip to Blackpool are responsible for their own health and safety and the health and safety of others. This is not a convoy, it is merely a guided route to the meeting points.
