Just wanted to say a big thanks to all the advice you gave regarding the nervious handling on my S2. Peninsula did a great job in adjusting the camber/caster and have transformed the handling, the car now sits with much more negative.

On another note since getting my car, my neighbor has taken to making insulting comments regarding build quality and reliability. His Porky 924 looks rather tired to say the least, however I have made no dis-respectful comments as I to had a 924 which served well (untill the engine self- destucted at Castle Combe). Imagine my smile when returning from Castle Combe on Sunday said Porky was being dumped off by AA truck. Last night the air was blue with attempts to start it. I responded by starting the TVR every now and then to remind him about reliability.

Question - I have always thought of my car's as female, but my daughter insists on calling the TVR Toby, should I put her in her place and push the female status or accept I maybe having a love affair with another male?

P.S Great choice Page3 - Will we see you at the Bristol meets.

Christian and er Toby.

my cars are always female, only right for cars and ships.

Could you possible post more details on the work that penninsula have undertaken? What exactly have they done to transform the handling and could i also enquire as to costs involved...?

Shnozz,

The car was very unsure when cornering hard and made you back off, A quick chat to Richard at peninsula resulted in A full geometry and suspension check. The camber and caster were found to be well out otherwise all was ok. Cost 40 pounds.

Hey, that's me

Bristol is about 100 miles or so, but that's not problem - absolutely bleeding love driving the thing. Could probably do 1000 miles if necessary (Actually I am in July, cancelled my holiday abroad and am driving round Scotland with the Wife instead).

Where/when? Do you have a link to details? I'm trying to arrange to visit a few meets with my Bro (jev) who has a Chimaera.

I heard that buying a TVR was a LOT more than just buying a car. Now I believe it

Something to do with the curves I reckon.. And possibly the need to buy shiny add ons, the occaisional tempoer tantrum, mysteriously sulking when least expecting it..

Oi Page3.......

I too am planning a driving holiday (spent all savings on TVR last week so cannot afford to go abroad! )

Looks like we've got 14th July for 2 weeks - was planning to go to lake district and beyond..

Would be a nice surprise if we bumped into another S3!
(BTW you didn't buy yours from a chap in Ticehurst by any chance?)

Now how familiar does that sound!

Going from July 19 for a couple of weeks. Probably go via the Peak district to meet my Bro, and then who knows where we'll end up.

Coz it was a choice between that one and the green one I bought 20 minutes further down the road in Crowhurst.

I was tempted by the S3C bonnet, wooden dash/elec mirrors, but the other had a perfect chassis, less scratches (driver's door & boot), I reckoned generally better looked after, but I confess there wasn't much in it - if I hadn't seen the green one, I certainly would have bought it!

How are you getting on with it? The guy selling it told me a replacement for his crumbling wood paint dash would be £100 - the forum told me different. Have you had any luck there yet?

Hey, Simon did mention you

Wood replacement dash's seem to cost around £350 from what I've found out. I'll wait until after the service (next week) before I decide when to go ahead.

Car driving wonderfully. Had a few issues (nothing major) such as a few dud bulbs and non-working driving lights. I get the impression it was given tons of TLC by the owner before last (it looks imiculate in the Evo feature ), and well looked after by the last owner (regular services etc), but little TLC.

Yeah, that's the impression I got - but didn't get to see the Evo article. Simon used the car as his everyday commute, and it looked as if he treated it like one, rather than a cherished toy. When I raised questions about switches, e/mirrors, fan etc not working, he just said make me an offer and I'll consider it.

I chose the other one losing the elec mirrors and wood dash, because my one shows signs of more TLC than you can measure. The owner was an older chap who treated the Steve Heath manual as his bible and has added so many little touches that show his TLC, I thought that was better than the nice bits I lost not buying yours.

Still, I am already having to look at the exhausts (scraped 'em 3 times) and may have a noisy wheel bearing/diff, and I've found a small leak (damp carpet behind driver's seat) - such are the pleasures of TVR ownership eh? Start it up though, and all is forgiven! (been here before though, also own a Ducati - same problems/pleasures)

If not garaged though, Leven car cap is the dogs bcks. Will do a thread with pics shortly.

Just as an aside, have you tried the driving lights with both the dipped and main beams? I assumed mine would be wired in with the dipped beams and therefore thought they weren't working. Eventually tried them with the main beam and hey presto!

Same with mine.. driving lights only come on when beams are full. Shame you can turn them on / off independently.

Richard, that should define whether they are fog lamps or driving lights. Fogs with dip beam, driving lights with main beam as required by law.

Yes, did try them but will do so again. Perhaps I missed something - I was a bit busy driving and grinning, which was quite enough at the same time

You're right Ray, and I agree with you 100%. Unfortunately, this is TVR wiring we're talking about!

Although mine were wired with the main beam, the lights were actually fog lamps! However, when my accident damage was being fixed I got them to replace the fogs with driving lights which means that they actually now serve a useful purpose.

Ok, tried them again with full beam on - and they work Thanks guys!

Even got the fan heater to blow some air around. Just had to waggle the switch a bit. I'll take a closer look at the weekend.

I seem to remember reading on a previous thread that the oblong (TR7) switches could be taken apart and cleaned up, so maybe that's your best bet. Does involve removing the centre console though IIRC!

Cheers, read that post too - this site is such a wealth of information I don't know how I'd do without it (and the 'Bible' of course ). I'm going to give that a go, but am waiting until after the service, which is booked for next Wednesday. My first service as a TVR owner. Told them to check EVERYTHING. Fingers crossed. Sorry to hear about your car's problem from your other post

Thanks Adam. Hope your service doesn't turn up any nasties! I had my fingers crossed all day during my first service and all was fine, so you shouldn't worry too much!
