New sub forum?
Discussion
I know I know - it could be covered elsewhere - but you know what us Scots (says she, tongue in cheek - resident for 20+ years so slightly schizo!) are like!! Independent so and sos!!
There are c 150 - 200 people involved in sprints and hills in Scotland, and we do have our own website. This year there's been an upsurge in threads on the Scotland forum re events - most events attract a thread, and to give an idea of the numbers of events, next years calendar has 1 free weekend between April and October!! We have a large number of 'lurkers' within the 150 / 200 - who read but don't join the PH family formally.
We have looked at getting a forum up on our website, but there are concerns about security, spamming, bandwidth etc which make the Championships governing committee reluctant to pursue further without a lot of further digging. Independently but at about the same time, a competitor has raised the issue in an off topic bit of an existing thread
http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...
so this is obviously something which would go down well.
So - getting to the point finally - is there any likelihood of the possibilty of getting a high proportion of the 150 or so competitors signed up as new PH members and generating a fair bit of traffic being enough to merit a sub forum under Scotland of Scottish Speed Events?

Excellent idea, I currently look after the Championship website and have read the previous thread.
It makes sense to me to have the forum in a safe and stable environment where there's more opportunity for other motorsport enthusiasts to drop by. If Pistonheads can benefit, Scottish Sprinting and Hillclimb Championship members and associated clubs benefit surely that's a good thing?

Do you mean a forum for Scottish Sprint/Hillclimb champ entrants or a forum for people interested in the Sprinting/Hillclimbing scene in Scotland . . . ?
The two are certainly not the same, with the latter being a significantly larger set of people than the former.

Most definitely the latter!! IMHO of course!!The two are certainly not the same, with the latter being a significantly larger set of people than the former.

Great idea - very much in favour of a forum. However I would prefer the forum to be on on the Championship websites if at all possible.

I agree with "The Observer"The Observer
I know it would take more effort/work but I think in the long run a forum on the Hillclimb and Sprint website would be much better than being a sub-forum hidden away in the depths of Pistonheads.
This thread has been here less than one day and you already have an offer from someone to be a moderator, hopefully there will be other people who come along with more offers of help and advice.

That way you will have a better chance of picking up the casual observer and may generate even more interest in the championships!

One problem that I have already seen in other places is the diversification of topics. What you need is a set of Sub Forums (is that the correct plural of forum?) that deal with (a) fixtures (b) News Stories (c) Trackdays (d) Speed Events (e) Get togethers and finally (f) General chit-chat.
I think this is the first step in the right direction.
