I noticed a push button under the left side of the dashboard just where the underside of the dash curves toward the centre console, I assume this is the mystical footwell fan switch, although pressing it in or out with the ignition on doesn't seem to make anything happen.
More interesting to me is a rotating wheel, which is mounted near to the indicator stalk and steering column adjuster on the plastic clam-shell (NO, not the steering wheel
). I thought it might be a panel dimmer, but rotating it when the lights are on doesnt seem to do anything either. I can't find any reference to it in the manual but suppose I might have missed something. Can anyone tell me what it does?

Yep button is dash illumination on off it has to be dark to notice.
The wheel is the 3 speed footwell fan that also does the right center air vent and is quite cool compared to the other fan.

Nearly. The pushbutton turns the dashboard lights on and off. (Don't ask me why anyone would want to do this).

On the S it's essential to avoid the Head Up display, on my LE Griff it's not so important you don't get the full Head Up display function and it doesn't turn off all the lights - heater fan switch, radio etc.
I thought that the lights over-ride switch was so that you don't get dazzled by the dashboard lights when hustling along dark counrty lanes at night. The only problem with that is, when you have main beam on, the blue, main beam light appears to be even brighter - so not amazingly useful. It would be though if you could by-pass that blue light as well.
I hadn't thought about current drain - I guess in a TVR every milliamp is crucial! Mine doesn't tend to be parked in streets with the lights on so I hadn't thought of this.
Even in a BMW 730 some of the telltale lights can be annoyingly bright, like the front and rear fogs. At least in the Griff each dial is illuminated to a different degree of brightness depending on how far the dials are from the lamps - just look at the one you find most comfortable! (White dials ain't all they're cracked up to be - my S3 was much nicer after dark).

This is an attempt to stop careless passengers from banging their knees on the glovebox thus opening it and then slamming it with sufficient force to explode the catch.
The illumination switch is useful when crossing Dartmoor at high speed. It is just a shame that the heater control panel doesn't dim.
All dash dials have variable illumination level control. What you do is you pull the bulb holder out of the dial until the dial is at the correct level of intensity. Useful for adjusting the over-bright clock.

Me thinks a Mod-Wise glove box kit may be ordered soon. I was quite impressed with the boot opening kit.
