Will the tooth fairy come?
Discussion
Didn't want to post this until after the last track day for obvious reasons....mainly you lot telling me it would explode!!
But I found this in the oil at last weekend change....I have an idea what it is from, but what is the consensus?
It measures 5mm long, 4mm high, is 1mm at it's thin end and where it broke off from whatever it is 3mm wide. The end faces are slightly tapered in to the top.

I'm not telling. You guys know your SBC don't ya?

Hmmm....
Gary, Steve.
Well I described it pretty much as above to Charles Dunn (minus pic) and he thought it could be a...now bare with me on this....tooth from the cam shaft pully/gear thing. Ya'na, the sprocket on which the chains run.
Apparently there are plenty more on the sprocket, so I said to Charles that I'd chance my luck and give it a go.
Just a bit worrying when I always pull the plug from the sump expecting to see a small amount of fine filings, to see a big toof!!

Herr Peter,
you`re almost right, I don`t distribute the cars, a better expression for what I do would be "Ultima consultant".
I was just about to ask how you find these parts in the oil. Do you use a sieve during the change or do you have some sort of magnetic plug? It might be a good thing to use on the next oil change.
Cheers,
Sven

Just the A/S supplied magnetic plug. Any metalic compoments that have make their way to the sump will be picked up by the magnet. The way I drive, anyway!
I do decant the oil into the waste containers from the collection can and check the last few CCs and the bottom of the collector....just in case!

Danke für die Info Peter.
You`re indeed lucky that thing didn`t jam or clog anything in the engine. What are you going to do about it now?
Bitter??? You`re indeed lucky that thing didn`t jam or clog anything in the engine. What are you going to do about it now?
Take the engine out and run it over to Charles Dunn for it's winter refresh. Concentrating on the oil consumption issue. 2 litres in 100 miles on track and a normal road use of say 1L per 500miles.
I said if I had a catastrophic failure then I'd go LS7. But I think I can 'tickle 'er up' for few grand every year.
Latershoffen.
Pete
Prost, Peter!
Your oil consumption sounds unbelievable, although it would do justice to the name "drain plug".
I just took out the old LS6 and found that it used about 0,5L on almost 8k miles (without any visible metal chips). It was beaten badly on the last thousand miles (many quarter mile races), still no signs of any damage or wear whatsoever.
I`m about to install the LS7 (and received some very strange looking parts from the factory for the installation that kept me up all night) - hopefully it will prove to be just as reliable as the predecessor...
So did your engine loose or burn all the oil?

It throws it out the exhaust...burnt or not I don't know!!Your oil consumption sounds unbelievable, although it would do justice to the name "drain plug".

The breather pipes are emitting vapour on idle, so maybe some comes out there??
Anyway....I got Porsche reliability woes at the moment. Blinking German engineering!! ....

Originally, I thought it must be one of your tooth fillings from taking all those kerbs at Snetterton, but I could'nt work out how it could have ended up in the oil!
