Hi William,
I bought some poly bushes for the torsion bar tube end (the main shaft) from my local Classic VW dealer, they are one piece and are full length. The other bushes i got from Superflex.co.uk, again they are poly bushes and come in one piece i think you cut them in half and fit them from either side of the bronze king posts. They didnt have any steel inserts though i wonder if they should, anyone got any advice on this. These are for the MK2a im trying to restore.
Have you started to restore the MK1 now william, i met you at Wedgefest last year, im a friend of Alan Levy.
Cheers

Hallo Richard,
I remember we met. How is Alan ? GT40 finished ?
Yes I started the restoration last week ! Chassis is finished and I am building up the suspension now. After that I will start to overhaul the Ford 1100 engine with a small blower mounted on it.
VW dealer !! Good idea !!!
I will check out Superflex.co.uk

Hi William,
Alan was fine last time i saw him at the Pre-80 doo at Papplewick in September, dont think his GT40 is finished he has had lots of problems with it mainly i think from the previous owners efforts in building the car.
You seem to be doing your Grantura very quickly , mines very slow, is the car No 116 off the Grantura registry you are down as ownikng 2 MK1's, be good to see some pics of the rebuild as reference for mine!,
Cheers

Dear Cantus,
regarding the rubber bushes you have several options. You can use superflex bushes (never found out how to use) or rubber bushes or manufacture your poly bushes by yourself. Alex Seidel made poly bushes for himself last year, perhaps he has some left. I opt for the rubber option and cut out the metal insert and had it sandblasted and galvanized to use it again. It looks like new. I then used rubbers from Mercedes which fit after a easy "adjustment". I can find out the part no if you like.
Regarding the bushes for the trailing arms you can ask David Gerald. I got mine from them and cut them into the right lengths. It fitted and works.
At the outer end of my Mk 2a there are other rubber bushes from VW fitted to stop leaking grease. I can find out the original VW spare part no to order by your lokal VW beetle dealer if you like!
regards
