shdop... carry on?

My odometer (sp?) mile counting thing on the speedo stopped today.
Has anyone else had this? Is it likely just got stuck or broken entirely? Should I get the thing fixed (is it an MOT requirement or anything?) or not bother?

Did it stop on 9999 or 19999 or something like that?

Quite a few people seem have had the odometer stop on 9999, 19999 etc....if so, then I wouldn't worry (just yet) as they tend to unstick themselves after a while anyway.

If your not sticking on one of the usual numbers, then I'm sure someone else will suggest something...

I have the same 98 4.0 and it stopped at 20000 and 30000 . . . just needed to be put to bed for the night (with a good story) and was fine in the morning . . .

i think it stopped at a x9999 - maybe it does just need a rest...
