Just bought an S1,in good shape however the chassis is sound but showing signs of rust where the powder coating is flaking off.
Do i need to remove the body to repaint or can it be done with body in place and if so how?
Secondly the exhaust is vibrating agenst sump or somewhere above the box how can this be fixed as it is a tight fit all round

rusting is quite common once the powder coating is broken there are lots of threads on this ,most of it can be done in situ ,wether it is body on or off depends on state of outriggers if you take off the wheel arch cover you can get in and clean most of it off and look down the out rigger tube

as to exhaust could be a loose mount jack it up and check down the full length

If outriggers are in need of minor work i.e. clean down and repaint etc. can the body be lifted up by say 6 inches or so without any major disconnections. I do not intend doing this until winter should i look at waxoiling, will this be messy to get off in October,
any thoughts?

yes body can be lifted up. About 4inches or so, enough to have outrigger tubes removed and new ones inserted. painting is hterefore no problem.

If you plan to use the car in the wet, then I would suggest waxoyling now. If not, then leave it until the winter. Best thing to remove waxoyl IMHO is to use a steam cleaner.

if you are doing a body lift what do you need to disconnect in the engine bay to lift it or can it all stay in place ????
