I ask this question sat next to a nice log fire watching the dog get closer and closer.

so are dogs made of abestos


As i am sure if i was that close i would start to smoulder

My parents had a cat that used to get so close to the fire he'd start to smoulder, with the smell of burn hair!

my old lab lay down so close to a fire that he overheated his head, and behaved very strangely for a while.

Yeah, mums dog done that. Had been dozing there all day, went to stand up wobbled and fell over again -Was OK after about an hour. Must have been heatstroke.

One of our cats did that, his white tip tail actually went black...

Neither of our dogs has an interest in the fireplace though, they both lay out on the cold tiles.

Our dog did this esp when she got older. She was black so would get too hot to touch!.

Apparently some animals do this due to age reducing their senses to i.e. heat. The same as elderly people needing more heat due to reduced senses.
