The title says it all really! I'm trying to do some budgeting plans to hopefully get an Elise after the new year, and this is the best quote I've had for insurance so far, quoted by Bell. Does it sound reasonable? Its fully comp with a £500 excess on a 2003 Elise 111

cheers!

Sounds about right, if you've got no previous provable experience in a RWD performance car, then you're going to get stiffed. Best I could find for 3 years NCB @ 26 on a 111R with Business Class 1 was £1075.

Sounds fantastic! I'm 21 years old with 1 years NCB and 1 years driving experience, good postcode, fully comp on a standard Elise S1: £2,600 with Kwik-Fit

Second cheapest for me was A-Plan at £3,200 frown Your quote is very good considering!

Those quotes are terrible. When I was 23, I was paying just over £1000 for my S1 sport 160.

My advice is get a limited run model as they are lower risk due to the lower amount of accidents because only a small batch were ever made. It was cheaper for me to insure a Group 20 S1 sport 160 worth £19K than a group 16 standard S1 worth £12K !! all because far less sport 160's were made.

S2's will be more expensive as lots more were made and lots more have been crashed.

Hope this helps a bit.

seems ages ago I was asking for advice on my first elise, Its coming up for the first anniversary and have loved every single minute.
as far as the insurance goes, when I was looking last year there seemed to be a huge hike in premiums between the standard and a 111s s2, why not try and get a quote for a standard one or a sport 135..?!
as stated in other threads people seem to think there is little in performance from 0-80 in most.
my biggest regret is going for the cheapest insurance which was direct line (the only one which would do 2 vehicles on one policy) when you get one you will want to make it your own ie induction, exhaust etc etc, you may think the car will be enough but trust me you will get the bug, so you will need an insurance company that won't rape you for a few little mods, also trackday insurance can be upto 200 a day if it is not included with your policy, so that is definately something to think of !

Inthe first year without going overboard
(seem to have done nothing yet):-
200 service
500 trackstar +
200ish induction
400 tyres
100 new mats with logos
30 gear nob
450 with fitting larini club sport ( comes this week foooookin well exited)
40 first mot
200 ish for mintex 1144s fitted (definately needed without a shadow)
and 1500 insurance
oh and a full alu radiator 300 ish
countless sponges and cleaning products
shit load of unleaded
new boxer shorts a couple of times

and Ive still not got the little beauty on the track yet.

prepare to be the happiest poor person on the planet, although its cost a few quid I have never ever come across a man made object that can make you grin like an elise..... good luck !
and get the pics up asap !

That is terrrible. How much!!!!

I am 30 with no ncb, have taken some company car driving into account but not much as i still use the car. I also had an accident in June last year wrote off my motorbike, payout of £6100 fault claim. I am paying £650 with A Plan on a Sport 160 which is group 20. The actually insurance company is Norwich Union.

stupid question, but how would they know he's got no previous experience of a RWD performace car? I've never been asked that when I've been getting quotes.

Blimey, they don't half punish you for your mistakes!! I was 28 when I bought my Elise and paid about £1,000 a year for the insurance! Howcome you still have 4 years NCB if you had a loss of control accident 18 months ago? Protected? Does that really make a difference?

If you can afford the premiums and want to pay it then it's reasonable.

Well presumably, if you lie and crash, they'll go through the archives of the insurance database to see if you've been a named driver on a similar car, if you haven't, you're stuffed, or if you can't provide a certificate of competance i.e. driver training - I know that's what I do if I were them.

It cannot been seen as a lie if the Insurer does not ask the question, technically you would have disclosed everything the Insurer asked for and I don't think many Insurers see it as a material fact - hence the reason why very few ask the question...the FSA would be all over them otherwise.

As far as the original OPs quote - there are so many variables which could inflate your premium. Are you including business mileage, where is it kept overnight, decent postcode, limited mileage, etc., etc. Admittedly, when I was 21 on a brand new S2 111s I didn't pay as much as that, but in the grand scheme of things get a few clean years under your belt and it will tumble. If you want it bad enough, you'll pay it! Without being patronising, you're just another bad statistic, we've all been there unfortunately!
