Try GPR Racewear, they also do starter combos that can save you a couple of hundred squid.

You could try http://www.jaysracewear.co.uk/

as they are a series sponsor they may do a deal... they have a budget range as well as their more expensive stuff..

also I'd add a neck brace to the list of bits you need...

Trust me its worth it !!!

Did the same as Sam as few years back. They seem very keen to do a deal at the Motorshow! Cheers,

Is there a list of kit we need and spec.
I know its going to be in the big book, but there's so much in there I got a bit confused.
So a recomended list and spec would be handy.
Also recomended extra's like the neck brace.

Thanks
Leigh

The only items that are currently scruntineered at the race meetings are Race Suit and Helmet. My only advice on those would be to get the best ones you can afford and the better they are, the lighter weight they tend to be too. Make sure that they are up to the most current FIA spec' and date so they last you for as long as possible.

Race boots are fairly necessary and there are loads to choose from and fireproof undies are optional but worth having in my opinion.

Depending on what Series other than Tuscan/Sagaris Challenge you enter, there can be other requrements. EG, in Dutch Supercars this year we had to wear a balaclava under our helmet and for next year they are stating that a HANS devise will be mandatory too. Don't know what the case is for the Tuscan/Sag Challenge in 2008 - perhaps someone could advise on those points for all our benefit.

If you are buying new (and you should for helmets and suits) then you should be getting the latest FIA spec. Just beware if buying a special offer that the suit for example is not the old 1986 spec which is no longer permitted. The same for the helmet.

You will need gloves and boots and I never race or test without a full set of nomex undies, including balaclava and socks. A balaclava makes it easier to get your helmet on and also keeps your helmet cleaner. It also protects your neck in the event of fire. As for the undies and boots - ask yourself whether you'd feel it was the right decision not to buy and wear them if you were trapped in a burning car. The hemlet and suit are the expensive bits, so it seems daft to me not to get the other stuff.

As for HANS - they are still very expensive but are becoming compulsory in more and more series. Whether they will soon be mandated for all series is up for debate. I have used one for a few years now and don't even know it is there.

I was thinking of nipping down to Demon Tweaks and trying a few bits on and hopefully get some cash knocked off, worth a try

Thanks

If you are never trapped in a burning car, two layers should be just fine. Should that happen you may change your mind.

Demon Tweeks will do 10% off all year round if you register for their Pole Position Club. Beware their postal charges though - try not to do lost of small orders.

Phil, you'll struggle to get much discount from DT by rocking up at the showroom. However sign up for their sponsorship scheme, it gives you 10% on everything even if you don't bother with the stickers.

When you're getting your helmet and overalls try on several options, despite being the same label size helmets are different shapes and I am 3 different suit sized depending on the manufacturer. I live about 15mins from DT so if you want to get your kit soon then give me a bell and you can put it through on my details to get the discount.

Another company that always seems to have good details at Autosport is http://www.peterlloydrallying.co.uk/

Will try and get everything I need at the same time.

Some of the smaller items like underwear I can get my family to buy them for me for xmas as they never know what to get me.

Thanks for the tip on the pole position club.

Conversely I've always found DT better than GPR, (and like I've said their local which helps i guess) personally I think on the whole its much of a muchness, like if you prefer Cornflakes or Rice Crispies, you'll always spend your money where you feel best about.

Particularly disturbing is how the injured drivers are hoiked out and then just left alone - fortunately I don't think that would happen in the UK.

This sort of crash is one of the reasons why I spent a lot of money on an FIA spec fuel bladder for my Sagaris. It is hidden from view and it doesn't make the car go any faster. But I really didn't fancy 70 odd litres of highly flammable go-go juice sitting inside the car with me in a single skinned ali tank. They can and do split (Darren Dowling's at Rockingham).

Leigh - only you can balance your priorities with how much money you have available. If I were you I would go 3 layer, but with one of the less 'flash' brands or designs, and there are some for reasonable money. I'd also wait until the Autosport show if you can

I'll wait for the Autosport for the suit, but will get the underwear before xmas.

Thanks as allways for all the good advice.
