Just come back from maplins with a noise meter. You are welcome to borrow it (or come round). It will give you some idea of noise. Same applies to others locally.

Stig - I had mine tested at Goodwood a while back, whilst the cans still had some packing It was 105dB then!

Still, with that ruddy great muffler sat on top you should have no problems.

Paul.

Thanks chaps. I've got a noise meter in my phone!! So I'll give it a go. 105db makes it marginal for even the 'noisy' tracks.

Doesn't sound that loud inside?

Mine was 108db's @ 5200 rpm with the std silencers.... its now 10db's less at same rpm.
You could fiddle it, but that won't help with the drive bys.

I went to Goodwood for a noise test and said "it red-lines at 4000" then did a noise test at 3000 and it was 101db and 98db and I could therefore go on the "loud days" (105db). They also suggested I short shift past the noise boxes (as they knew it revved higher than this!)..

Surely you passed your SVA, which means you must have achieved 103dB at 3/4 of max power rpm?

I know my car was 105dB at 3/4 of 5800rpm, so failed its SVA. I added some packing and got it down to 103dB to pass the second time around.

I thought SVA required 96db's @ 3/4 revs!

Spoke to Ted and apparently mine was between 96 and 99db at 3000rpm - so as long as I'm economical with the truth with the redline figure, I should be OK.

Have to remember to short shift for the trackside meters too!!

Mine was 117dB when I took it out for its first race . Then I put some packing in the exhausts and got it down to 103dB

That was with the original engine though, which was bloody noisy anyway. With the new one, I've never been measured above 101db (but I always make sure that the cans are properly packed).
