Hi

Had a very good test drive of the 120 1.9CDTI version of this car on the weekend (the dealer told me it was the 150bhp version and to be frank I thouht the performance was fine and could live with it (after coming from 220bhp) however when looking at his stock lis I just wanted to see what other 150 Astras he had in stock when he said oh I made a mistake that was the 120bhp I didnt realise....).

Anyway his error aside I really like the car for a big lad like me I can get into the back seat with more headroom & legroom than any other hatchback I have been in. I like the XP looks and the dash is fine ditto the seats & the boot is very good too.

Anyway has anyone here driven the 120 and 150 back to back is it much better? Is it worse on fuel (official states no difference) & price wise even when new there was only about £400 difference between the models.

Ive had a VX cavlier in the past and it was truely a great car (until it was driven into!) rock solid reliable.

Any problems with the 150 or 120cdti units. Where is the best place to buy them with the XP pack - Im not interested in non XP models as they really look so much better with the kit on oh and colour it must be the dark silver.

I've had a 150 1.9cdti sporthatch for just over 6 months now in which time I've clocked up over 16,000 miles (bought it second hand and it's now clocked over 40,000 miles).

It has been utterly reliable so far, my last few cars have been small french hatches so it's a novelty for me not to take my car to the garage every couple of months. It is also the most solidly put together car I have owned.

I've never driven the 120 version but the 150 is a fantastic engine, very quick and very refined on the move. Over the time I've had the car I have averaged 44mpg which is 20 miles of fast a road, 60 miles of duel carriageway and 20 miles of town driving (including sitting in traffic for 40 minutes) every day.

I had been looking at Golf GT Sports & BMW 1 series 120d/118d but for the £ the VX Astra 1.9 CDTI Sri XP has so much more to offer so much kit and miles cheaper 2nd hand than the equivalent 1 series or Golf.

Looks wise I personally think it is one of the best looking 5 door hatches around currently + I have no issue with running a VX which Im sure some do.

I'm looking at new versions of the same 3 cars. 1 Series is nowhere in value for money stakes, but the Golf GT Sport now comes with more kit than the Astra (heated leather seats, auto lights/wipers, electric rear windows). Astra will be ££££ cheaper 2nd-hand, but the Golf will lose less. All this choice is making my brain hurt!

I agree. But the wheels and bodykit that make it look so good come at a hefty premium.

I have noticed this too recently. Also remember the new Mk6 Golf is out in Sept08 so that will reduce the residual value of the Golf somewhat - conversly as its near the end of its life they are ramming it with kit.

The 1 Series though is still cracking drive but very costly. Another you may want to consider is the Fiat Bravo 1.9 same engine as in the VX more kit too and 0% for 4 years & 5 years unlimited milage bumper to bumper warranty!

I'd go for the 150. It's the most desired on the VX forums I use.
