Bernie is Silverstone bashing...again...

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula...

...yes the circuit needs more work but I fear 'His Shortness' will never be happy until Silverstone loses the GP for good.

Probably having a go to get back at Damon for telling it how it is.

Sao Paulo is better than Silverstone? He is having a giraffe. Last time i was at Monza it was no better than Silverstone, worse as far as pits complex. Canada is nothing special either.

Silverstone has made massive improvements in facilities in recent years, the road network had vast sums of government money spent on it too.

And I was down at Magny Cours the other week. What a hole that is. worst catering and toilet facilities this side of Lydden!

Of course Bernie doen't like that one either does he?

Any governmet puts taxpayers cash into the BGP loses any support from me. Why don't BE and the rest of them dip in to their overstuffed wallets for a change?

Personally i dont watch motor sport for the facilities. i dont remember ever watching a race and thinking 'the racing was awful but weren't the pit garages nice!'

That's my view entirely but all Bernie is interested in is making the circuits celebrity friendly.

I can't stand the grid walks anymore, if I'd wanted to hear from Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell and Sylvestor Stallone I'd buy Heat magazine.

Bernie doesn't like Silverstone because cigarette advertising is banned in the UK.

absolute end of story. All the rest of the huffing and puffing is just window dressing.

Why so many far east grand prix. . . because the tobacco market out there is worth a fortune.

Read Beverley Turners Book 'The Pits' to realise how Bernie has followed lung cancer around the world to amass revenue.

No one else thinks that a street circuit in London would be much better then? I think it would be excellent to have something to rival Monaco, which for me is the most exciting and best ot watch race in the calender.

Cigerette advertising doesn't benfit the sport as much as it used to now that the only team with a cigerette sponser is Ferr-

Totally agree, if he got rid of the British GP he would have a nice gap for another 'cigarette friendly' venue!

It would be a sad day for F1 if it lost a 'classic' like Silverstone. When ever you read the write ups on the 'new' tracks they all say one thing, they may have the best facilities for spectators, press, corporate and teams but, they have no soul.

Silverstone however, has this in abundance!bow

The thing that really annoys me is that Bernie is the man who has made the most money out of F1, alleges that he is British, moans about the facilities at Silverstone which by all accounts are not the worst by any means and don't matter to the fans or probably many of the sponsors - but they matter to Bernie. So why can't he spend a tiny proportion of the money he has earned into the redevelopment he says Silverstone needs, with no strings attached but might be nice if they called it the Ecclestone suite or something.

Assuming he earns £1bn per year (which has certainly been the case for a few years) spending £25m for him would be equivalent to someone on £30k (maybe average income) spending £750 which some do for a weekend at the British GP. But if Bernie did give £25m he would only have £975m left for the year so I guess he would be struggling to survive on that.

I know it isn't that simple, but he can afford it!

The cigarette companies are desperate to get into the far east markets but in China for example their own brands cost a fifth of an imported brand so the only way to break these markets id to give the impression that the major brands are somehow more exciting , sophisticated and more civilised.

The Chinese need to be sold on the fact that you get a better class of lung cancer with an imported brand.

Cigarettes mean big money because it is a legalised addictive drug.
Its like signing people up to a subscription or a contract.

Cigarette smokers are the ultimate consumer.

I read a book by John Grisham which was a portrayal of the first jury trial to win the argument against cigarette companies and hold them culpable in legal precedent for smoking related deaths.

When they made a film of the book (The Runaway Jury with John Cussack) They actually swapped the cigarette company for a gun manufacturer .
Why?
Is Hollywood too scared of the tobacco Mafia? That even a fictional film can't be made for fear of reprisal.

How any one can expect a government to cough up support when the guy in chief sits on a reputed £2,250m fortune is an insult to intelligence.

I think it'd be great but can you imaging red Ken (who is now green to his rotten core) would conuntenance such a petrolly event? F1 is the epitome of consumption and excess (and all the better for it) and the ideology of it would make it politically difficult at best.

bernie did make a good point abouthe Olymipc monies and a tiny fraction being all it'd take to get either Silverstone or the London GP sorted.

even after last season, 'the most exiting season for a long time' (which isn't saying much) Bernie can send F1 to the middle/far east, he should give it to people who dont care what they're watching as long as it makes him money.
In my opinion silverstone has got gradually worse over the years because of the constant alterations to conform with F1, and i'm talking about the circuit, not the facilities! but its still got a certain character that most of these new circuits dont have.
As long as he leaves the traditional circuits like Brands, Oulton, castle combe etc...and events like the le mans 24 hours, he can do what he wants.

In 10 years time F1 will be a Far East tour, no room for the old 'founding father' euro circuits of F1 and International motorsport.

The simple fact is stumpy wants money and he knows the far eastern countries will pay top dollar.

The teams bar a few are European and those who arn't are European based, we have a right to watch something we created.

Will the Americans muscle in on the European market?

Another thought about Bernie paying for the upgrades himself. Assuming he does pay some tax in the UK I am sure it woudn't be too difficult for his accountant to find a way that 40% of the cost did come from the government with the remainder coming from Bernie as he would surely be able to offset the investment against tax.

Simple answer is let the midget and Mad Max take F1 to the Far East, along with Ferrari.

Now we can look to have a real sport in Europe and the rest of the world, in countries who have realised that smoking KILLS and that there are far more avenues to generate money and those countries want real racing, and not the Ferrari Internatioal Academy.

Why does it have to be called F1? So what if the midget has tied down the copyright - FOCK him, lets call it something else.

...and to those who say he has all the track signed up, FOCK him again, because I'm sure there are legal ways out of his shite processional business model!!

I do not think the midget can secure the rights to the term Grand Prix, due to it being used across a wide range of sports - so lets just have the WGPC: World Grand Prix Championships and FOCK Ferrari, the midget and Mad Max smile

Job done.

The business pricks out of the show

Racing back in and real drivers with big balls driving big fast cars smile

1) ITS NOT ABOUT TOBACCO - only one team still runs tobacco and thats Ferrari, and the ban comes in 2009. Most of these races are being contracted until way after then.

2) Bernie is plain prejudiced against the BRDC. He hates them becuase they never made him a member of their club.

3) The government is never going to fund the GP, end of.

Thats what Champ Car is banking on doing, but it may not survive that until then.

I do hope it does survive long enough to get onto some of the great european tracks, as its rather good racing with its spec cars. The opening round in LV had them going three-wide into a corner on a street track. Couldn't see F1 doing that wink
