Euro Break - Budapest?
Discussion
Planning a European city break for the end of Feb, budget isn’t massive, looking at no more than about £200 per person for flights/hotel/taxes, and don’t want massive costs while we’re there.
For some reason I’ve got into my head I want to go to Budapest, no idea why, just like the sound of it and no one from the office has been which is a plus, in second place at the moment is Rome, but the Office Boss has just been there and the ‘did you do this, did you see the other, oh you should have done that….’ would get on my moobs.
It’s just the 2 of us, managing to escape from her little lad for a weekend, so relaxing is the main objective, bit of culture, bit of sightseeing, bit of shopping, nothing too adrenaline packed, and no arctic conditions. (Her agenda not mine, I’d happily so snowboard bungee jumping on ice, but I think the boss/health insurance might have a heart attack with my track record)
At a bit of a loss to other destinations, Barcelona is off as we’re there later in the year, Paris just seems too much of a cliché (and it’s full of French). Prague, I wouldn’t say no to, but it’s a bit tainted by the stag do crowd along with most of Eastern Europe, although I think you can still have a good time there if you avoid ‘The British’ I don’t think I’d get it past the other half as she’d be expecting it turn into a Lap Dancing tour.
So where haven’t I though of, and if there’s no strong reasons against, has anyone got any Hotel recommendations in Budapest, and things to do/see?

budapest is nice although prob as full of stags as prague but avoid certain locations and you'll be fine. what about marrakesh theres cheap flights there is a bit different.

Depends on your budget - Kempinski was always considered one of the best and it's fairly central. There are other ones you may prefer overlooking the Danube also in that same area.
I really liked the Hilton though, was newish, right next to a shopping mall and just a very nice hotel.
I've been to Budapest quite a lot and loved it there. Was some petty crime though to watch out for.
Not sure what you'd get for £200 all in though, I didn't find it a particularly cheap place to get to and stay in, although it was dirt cheap in eating and travelling around etc.

Kempinski is very nice. When I started going over there more often when I was buying a flat I started staying in the Mariott apartments (not the Mariott hotel). Fantastic location & value (and quality). Only let down in the summer is that the cast of pisspoor Robin Hood stay there.I really liked the Hilton though, was newish, right next to a shopping mall and just a very nice hotel.

Will be cold but just wear something warm. Never had a problem with stag do's all over the place. It's not like Tallinn - it is a big city with plenty of good bars in Buda and Pest.
Fantastic location for a short break.

Cheapest deal I've found was £86 per person, but to be fair I wouldn't want to stay in the hotel it was offering.
The travel website I was using didn't actually have many deals over £200, and there were some hotels that didn't look too bad, think the Radisson SAS looked ok, but then it was flying RyanAir which probably lands in a different continent.

The other Hilton, the old one built in ruins is a good one, but a little out of the way. And it's at the top of quite a steep hill, which is annoying even with a beer jacket. But the scenery is good, it's pretty cheap and if you dont mind a bit of a walk to get to know the place it'll be fine.View from the back of the hotel
