Ok, been gaming for a few years.Bought a PS2 at launch and loved it, used nothing else.

Got GT3 and played nothing else for a very long time.

Eventually the PS gave up the ghost and stopped seeing the controller, so having lost interest in it because it wasnt working and wasnt really worth the cost of a repair, I started to game on my pc.

Pc is nothing mega, P4 3.0 Gig with a 1.5 gig of ram and a Radeon X300.
It plays Half Life fine, although the fan does run much faster.

Ive got RF and GTR, but no wheel, so as driving games they arnt as involving as GT was (to me) on the PS.

Got bored today and took the PS apart to try and fix, eventually got it running briefly before it packed up again.

However, in that short space of time I relaised how much I has missed GT3 and general "arcade" driving.

SOOO.....

What do I do know ? I like the idea of the online driving stuff that goes on, but feel a wheel on the PC isnt going to be the answer, I cant leave it in place , and also feel a bit a silly using one at home.

Should I just go and buy a 360 or carry on with the pc and accept that a wheel is what is required.

Not really after the full on driving sim, and also very keen on FPS stuff.

Any advice greatly recieved.

Yep, don't find it to be a problem. Had a steering wheel when I had my PS2, but it got used for around 3 months when I got it then I never used it again.

yeah, i have no issues using the controller for driving games, its pretty sensitive so you can have good graduation.

you can get a wheel for the xbox if you want though.

VgaCable

Works great for time when the OH wants to watch telly, also I believe the 360 will not upscale dvd's without the vga cable.

the elite has HDMI and a bigger HDD - which you dont really need at all, so just get the standard system (with the HDD and wireless controller)

For online you just need to connect it to your network - either ethernet or wireless (needs an adapter) then just pay 40 quid and your away!

To race online will need a live subscription, although with most games you get 24 or 48 hour mini subscriptions which let you see what live is like.

Elite has a 120 gb HDD attatched, the newer consoles have hdmi ports built in too.

Wiki was the best link I could find with comparisons of the different versions that are available.

You should be able to get bundled bits ie console, live subscription, few games thrown for a competitive price shopping round, there are plenty of resellers.

New consoles also have the hdmi port.

Depends on usage, but you can hold media, demos, and IPTV when they release it on the 360 so the bigger hdd can be usefull.

If I was buying now I'd be getting the Elite.

Well, that was an afternoon wasted.

Went into four seperate large electrical retailers to try and buy a 360 today.

Question: I want to buy this console, but only if you can sell the apropriate lead to connect to my pc monitor......

Answer: No, thats not possible
Have you got hdmi on monitor ? no? You need a new monitor mate
Comes with all the leads you need......I think....
Plug into the telly....
Hold on, I'll just check.......no I mean piss off altogether

etc etc from the undertrained weekend staff.

Tried to have a look at the back of the consoles on display.

It looks like just a scart output ? Is that right ?
In whcih case all I need is a scart to vga ?

Sorry for the seemingly numpty q's.

Try buying online.

Play.com or similar should stock all the right bits.

The AV connector on the back of the 360 supports just about every analog video format, with the right cable.

Composite,
S-Vid
RGB(via scart)
Component.
And VGA.

Also does stereo and digital sound. comes with a component/composite cable (premium)

The HDMI socket can be used for HDMI and DVI-D or DVI-I, HDMi comes with audio, for DVi you'll need a dongle I think (on the AV port).
