I stood at the top of the Craner Curves to watch the European GP, April 1993.
I will never forget the 1st 2 laps: Senna in the under powered McL customer Ford. He took Schumi as they passed me on lap 1, Damon in the Williams (class of the field) thru the old hairpin and up under Starkeys. Then out of my sight.
Lap 2 Senna emerges out of Redgate in the lead, as he powers around the top of Holywood and down into the Craner curves the back steps widely out.
Watching Senna correct the slide with the traction control banging away, coz no way did he lift off, is a memory I treasure.
The man had skill beyond the norm even for F1.
Better than Schumi ? I cannot say and I have seen them both race together.
Certainly at least as good as each other.
Alesi in the pre Schumi Fezza arrived in the gravel at my mate's marshall's post, their 3rd meeting in 3 British GP meetings. What a crap car that was, spectacular breakdowns were its only attribute.
Pre and Post Schumi Ferrari... now there is a thread worth discussing.

Aeropilot says Jim Clark, Fangio and Shumi were the best and Senna was overhyped and nowhere near them.
Don't like to swear but personally I think you are talking out of your ar**
I would agree that they are in the same league as Ayrton but to say he is not the same as them is cobblers.
Many people did not like Ayrton's win at all cost approach, actually I always thought that was what racing was about.
They did not race in the same era's so trying to say who was the best is simply a matter of personal taste and will always be prejudiced by individual perception.

I still think if Alesi had been at Ferrari when they had some focus and produced cars that didn't break down, he'd have been a World Champion at some point.
His car control was on another plane compared to the rest of the F1 grid when he came into the top level. If only he'd had a car that could have given him results.

Magny Cours 1993(?) in the Ferrari, in the wet, on slicks. Still lapping at the same speed as everyone else. His car control was on another plane compared to the rest of the F1 grid when he came into the top level. If only he'd had a car that could have given him results.
Various other instances where he really showed true class, just a pity that the Tyrrel of 89 (or was it 90?) was proberly the best that he ever drove in F1.

Schumi's first full season in F1 was 1992 he finished 3rd with Senna 4th in the championship. 1993 Senna was 2nd, Schumi 4th.1994 we were only fortunate to see those few races but Schumi won all of them.
I stand by my favourite F1 memory being Senna at Donnigton, but Schumi was his equal, based on the histories of recorded points scored,
maybe not on peoples' opinions.

"If I had this I'd have won ALOT of races" (last V12 Great Car).
First paddleshifter I believe too.Mansell won first time out in it. They were great cars for 3 years then went down the toilet till the 95 car. (6 was crap too (first V10) but had Schmacher to start digging them out of the whole at least then)
