i have taken off the door cards from the inside of the 205 to fit something more purposeful but cant be sure if i actually need to have something inside to pass an MOT or for scrutineering though and what can i use for the interior door panels of a track car? is plastic acceptable or does it have to be aluminium.

ive passed MOTs with my hillclimbers without door cards at all, no problem. in the event of a side impact though, a thin ally panel may help spread the load of the window mechs etc from hitting the driver. personally, i prefer ally to fibreglass (my doors are fibreglass) as it wont splinter etc, same goes for carbon door cards, can be like razor blades when smashed.

to pass scrutineering you'll almost certainly need some sort of cover over the inside of the door. A thin metal covering is generally the answer

Neither my Taz or tuscan racers have any form of door cards in them

A lot of rally cars have the door structure cut away to almost nothing and don't have door cards. No problem for MOT or scrutineering. I've never seen anything in the Blue Book to suggest it would be a problem in any formula, but that's not to say I've ever studied the race section at any great length.

If you cut away a lot of the door structure you might need to have door bars on the rollcage to offer side protection. Other than that I don't think there'd be an MoT implication.

My race car has fiberglass doors, which are cut so that there is only the outer skin and an edging in place, so I have to also run rollcage bars across the door opening inside the car. It's a tight fit I can tell you!

I think it might be worth looking into what the regulations say for the race series you wish to enter. I think the stockhatch ones were along the lines of you need door card or replacement panels which should be finished to a safe standard ie no sharp edges.

I also didn't think you were aloude to cut out the internals of the doors for stockhatch but could well be wrong about that.

good point, some road car series ( especially sprinting) insist that the original door cards etc are in place. so whilst I dont think there is anything mot wise or in the blue book you'd be best checking with your series first
