Vents in Wings
Discussion
But not all the cars make use of the rear vents. Tim uses his rear ones to vent the cabin. On Fred's and mine they vent the arches, although via different methods. Both front and rear take an absolute beating from rubber pick up (particularly if Dunlops are being widely used by all series at a particular meeting) - I have wire mesh over the hole in the rear inner arches which I have had to replace after each race, and the front vents (which are unprotected) are full of star cracks. And that's after just 2.5 hours of track time
Cheers, speaking from a reasonably new standpoint, there seems to be a lot of aero modifications you can use on a race car which are put to use on the Sagaris i.e. vents to arches, splitter, rear wing, flat floor, roof and windows, wouldnt the tuscan benefit from some of these? I cant seem to understand why the have never been adopted, I can understand when the factory were involved you had restrictions to enter the series but why not use the mods now?

I think the answer is that the Tuscans are, on the whole, now being driven by relative newcomers (and I include myself in that). As we are not driving them in standard trim as quickly as they were being driven prior to 2004 (even allowing for softer tyres), there is clearly scope for going quicker without resorting to aero aids. In other words it would be better/cheaper to modify/improve driving than modify the cars.
also the Tuscan is not an aero shape to begin with and its too high.
flat floors require a very low ride height for proper downforce.
big spoilers need clean air which is difficult in an open car.
etc etc
they all however add to weight and drag. so not many run them atm. at some tracks, the faster/aero tuscans removed the wing and went quicker. There was an article in sprint about this recently.
the GTF cars, have a roof and are lower with bigg splitters and flat floors...so here it can make a difference. when you have this cleaner transient air above and below, the arch diffusers can help to reduce high pressure. The wings also work. If you saw the rockingham footage Tim was able to short-cut the last corner and get the power down well before darrens well quick Tussie.

Don't you also have wheel arch inner liners, or have now they been removed? That was always the odd thing about the road car design. Having said that, wheel arch liners will save your paintwork , mine is a mess at the front after just two race meetings. I'd be horrified if that happened to a road car if I had oneClaire
