...that grow and grow.

I had planned to take the TVR off the road for a couple of months during the winter to fix a host of little annoyances. However the already knocking diff bushes became severe after the Rutland Rumble so I thought I would do them this week.

This should have been a fairly straight forward job, unfortunately while I was under there I thought it would also be wise to:-

Grease the UJ's
Clean the speedo sensor
Degrease and paint the diff
Make and fit a diff breather extention
Strip down rear suspension
Clean up rear of chassis and apply POR15
POR15 wishbones
Clean and repack Lobro Joints
Strip and clean shocks
Derust and paint exhaust
Clean all brake pipes and unions
Clean up fuel pump contacts
Grease handbrake linkage
Reinforce top diff bracket

All with no flamin' access as all I have is axle stands.

So now I'm completely knackered and I just want my car back before the gritting lorries make it time to take it off the road again!

Once you remove the shocks and wishbones all the other areas become easier to access.
Even on axle stands!
So stop moaning and get on with it!
BTW it's going to rain at the weekendbiggrin

Doing the diff & central chassis stuff is a lot easier with the wheels on ramps IMHO. Axle stands are like obstacles when you are wriggling around under the car I find. I would split the jobs into 2 parts, do the central bits on ramps, then the wishbones/wheels on stands.

For us newer chimaera owners entering our first winters, are there any particular jobs/pieces of advice that you long-term owners would like to flag up?

Blimey! - where to begin? Based on my little job above I think you could keep yourself busy for 3 months just preparing for winter.

Yes, I don't want to change the thread but for us newbies what is the collective wisdom on running them over Winter, my intention was to turn her over 2/3 times a week and get out for half an hour whenever it's dry??

Don't run it at all, unless you're going to run it for long enough to get the whole engine and exhaust system really hot. Cold starting releases acids into the engine, and unless it gets hot enough to boil this off and break it down, it will accumulate and cause corrosion problems. There's no problem leaving the car parked for a few months, just keep the battery charged, tank full (air gap can result in condensation) and for extra brownie points roll the car back and forth a few inches from time to time to make sure the tyres don't get a flat spot.

Peter

as someone whose car often doesn't turn a wheel for weeks at a time, is there anything else you'd care to suggest ? I draw the line at putting it on axle stands for the winter.

cheers

Mike
(NB I have a 'big red switch' on the battery so no need to keep that topped up)
