When everanyone looks up my wife business address with a post code and street number, it gives out very old information,

ie the name of the business that was there 15 years ago...

Is there just one database all retailers use...

Anyone know how/where to get it changed.

In theory there's one database that the Royal Mail licence out.

The Royal Mail have one source of property information, generally by postcode, which they do sell various versions of.

However, there are a number of Land and Property Gazetteers (LPG).

There is at least 1 National LPG (NLPG) - see here http://www.nlpg.org.uk/nlpg/link.htm?id=52.

Many organisations, especial council planning depts have their own Local LPG (LLPG), which they update locally when new buildings are created and send these updates to an NLPG for distribution.

A number of commercial organisations have created various other databases of property, which they sell on.

Depending on where the data originally came from and how often it is updated, will determine its accuracy at any point in time.

As Ted says, its one dataset that people extend.

No, I don't believe that this is the case. I believe that the PAF and the NLPG are two different independent sources. A third independent source is the OS databse. They may share information in order to try to consolidate, but they start out as independent sources.
