Last Christmas my daughter wanted a Nintendo light thing - I didn't have a clue, but PH did and I got the advice I needed to get one and Holly was just thrilled with it.

Can I ask for your help again?

My son wants something called a Gameboy. I've 'Amazoned' the gadget but am confused by the descriptions - they seem to feature dates! There's a Gameboy Advance Blue SP 2004, Gameboy Clear 2005 and so on.

Oh God I'm feeling sooooo old!

Which is the Gameboy to have?? And what games will mine need?

Thanks...

DS Lite - will play all previous games

There is a Gameboy Advance Micro - a revamped Gameboy Advance (single plain landscape handheld) - not worth owning to be honest the DS Lite does it all for £100~

My daughter has the Nintendo, but my son wants the Gameboy - so it's just a question of which one...

Gameboy is made by Nintendo - not sure I understand what you mean there...

Anyway, get a DS Lite as someone else said, can play Gameboy/Gameboy Advance games on it as well as DS games.

Sorry, it's me being fik, innit.

My daughter has a double screen Nintendo DS Lite (just checked) and plays with puppy games. Bless. It's pink too.

My son, being a man and everything wants (in a deep voice) a GAME boy.

So you'll have to explain this slowly as I'm over forty and just don't get this stuff!

Are you saying that my son would be better off with with a DS Lite as well? I think he's got his mind made up (he's only 6) that the Gameboy is the thing to have, also he doesn't want the same as his sister.

If the Gameboy is yesterdays technology, then maybe I should persuade him to have something else?

Yep, Nintendo DS like his sister. You can get them in black (or white) as opposed to pink if that will help smile

Really speaking, the DS is just the 3rd evolution of the Gameboy. No point in the lad going backwards. smile

You could buy him a 'proper' Gameboy circa 1990 and save some cash laugh

Yes, basically buy your child a Nintendo DS that isn't pink.

Job sorted.

For those interested the history of the Nintendo handhelds is something like this:

GAMEBoy (B&W) -> GAMEBoy mini -> GAMEBoy Colour -> GAMEBoy Advanced -> Advanced Lite -> DS -> DS Lite.

The DS should play Advanced titles and possibly original GB ones... with a little persuasion.

Yes, I want a DS frown

Thanks for that - I thought the Gameboy and DS Lite were two different things rather than an evolution. So it's been very helpful to know.
