My view of Lewis has changed...
Discussion
I know there is another thread about Lewis Hamilton's appearance on Top Gear last night, but the childish attitude of the posters left me only one option but to start a more mature thread.
Having spent the year being turned off by the guy thanks in large to the arse licking ITV F1 production team, I had forgotten what a great talent that Lewis has.
That was re-ignited last night when he drove within a hares breath of Mansell's time, and Mansell had driven on a dry track, while Lewis was having to deal with a damp (wet in places) track. The guy has fantastic car control.
What was best of all was the way that Clarkson treated the interview. No bullshit, no arse-licking, just an honest appreciation of raw talent, and the young lad has loads of it.
I just wish that ITV would back off and allow the country to warm to the guy in our ways and at our own speed. If we have more of the same from ITV in 08, it will do nothing but anger many racing fans, of which I'm one.
I want to like the guy, and after yesterday's performance I could, so this is a plea that going out to anyone who currently works for the ITV Lewis Hamilton Appreciation Society...
LEAVE THE GUY ALONE AND REPORT ON F1 AS A COMPLETE SPORT. 11 TEAMS 22 DRIVERS AND MANY OTHER GREAT PERSONALITIES DOWN THE PITLANE WHO ARE PART OF MOTORSPORT - THAT'S WHAT WE WANT, AND THAT'S NOT WHAT WE ARE GETTING - SORT IT OUT ITV FOR 2008!!!!!

My view hasn't changed, I liked his driving at the start of the year and I liked it at the end. I thought he seemed down to earth and well balanced at the start, and still do now. He's a fantastic talent and I hope McMerc come up with the goods for him again next year.
If you chose / choose to let ITV's gratuitous brown nosing affect your view of the guy, that's for your own account - but it seems to me that many people objected to the media coverage and took it out on Lewis, rather than against the people orchestrating the circus. They won't stop unless he "does a Jenson", so best just switch your commentary to Spanish radio next year if it's that much of a problem?

I appreciated the talent of Lewis all through the year, and actually didn't think there was any more support shown to him by the cock at ITV than was shown towards the cobbler in previous years. As Lewis is British I would hope there might be positive support towards him from the British media, and lets face it, most of the time during the year his performances warranted praise, especially as he was a rookie.
It wasn't Lewis who made the media say the things they did - I thought he remained down to earth and honest in all of the interviews I saw him give, and I had learned to ignore the cock most of the time anyway!

Agree 100% with that. I find it strange the OP has had his opinion of Lewis coloured so much by ITV rather than the man himself.
