Hello everyone

I was wondering if anyone could recommend an accountant in the Kingston area?

We're a 4 man ltd co. software house. We've done all the accounts in house so far but as it's year end time we want to get some professional advice to make sure everything is in order and that we're not going to pay too much (or too little) tax (you knew that bit was coming didn't you?).

It's time to either get the yellow pages out or ask on here, so any recommendations?

Cheers
Matt.

I use SJD - London office

Admittedly I'm a one man band, so your needs may differ. Location isn't a problem as I do everything over phone or email.
Does your company have a website (unrelated to original question)?

Thanks for that, I'll check them out.

We do have a website, are you asking because you want to take a look or because you're a web designer?

Jon,

Just had a look at your website, there's a fairly clean swipe at non qualified accountants! lol!

As a note, one of my bosses is unqualified (1 out of 4) and I'd say he's the most diligent and knowledgeable person in the firm (apart from myself) I'll show him the website though.....just to piss him off hehe

For those of us who are qualified, having to compete with non-qualifieds can be an issue. I agree however, that there are some very good non-qualifieds out there, just as there are some rubbish qualifieds.

An interesting development is that, with effect from 15 Decemebr 2007, EVERY individual who carries out any sort of financial service to individual or business clients, must now register as a financial advisor in order to operate legally. All those who practice under the auspices of a recognised professional body (ACCA, ICAEW, ICAS, ICAI, ATT, AAT, CIOT etc) are automatically registered through their professional body. All those non-qualifieds who do not belong to a professional body will now have to individually register. And guess who the registration body is for these people - HMRC!

Not a web designer but always like to see what small software companies are up to. I worked for a few a couple of years back before going into the banks

The act becomes law on 15/12, however, it is not yet possible to register.

HMRC will accept registraions from 1/4/08 and the deadline is 31/07/08. To carry on the business of ASP (accountancy service provider) the only obligation is to register, no fit & proper test is required.

Seems like a money making scheme for HMRC to me! I also wonder how seriously they are on protecting the public when the "Institute of Bookkeepers" is a recognised regulatory body?!

It all smacks of another Government Junket to me. It will confer no security or guarantee to anyone who uses such an individual.
