The leather in mine is in V good condition generally, however it has lost some of its colour on the drivers side where its worn with getting in and out.

I want to revive/recolour it, has anyone done this, if so with what? I've seen some stuff called 'liquid leather' has anyone used it?

Second point. Carpet on drivers side is worn around the peddle area, but is OK apart from that. Ideally I want to replace the carpet on the drivers side only, so can you still get the same carpet? If so from where?

If I can't match the carpet colour, has anyone had theirs fully re-carpeted, if so how much did it cost?

Think thats it, sorry for all the Q's.

Try autostyle mats for the carpet... they can do a new mat for you...

Done it!
My interior looked a right old state, but the leather was actually in superb condition. It's Magnolia and the dye had worn off to reveal a lot of the tan hide. I had Gliptone mix up some Scuffmaster liquid to match a sample which i provided. I then took the seats out masked up and hand painted all of the dash / hoop / screen surround. I then used the aerosol supplied to spray the seats in a ventilated garage. It took ages and loads of coats but all came up like new. All this for less than a hundred quid!

My drivers side carpet also wore thin, but the rest were excellent, so I bought some mats of a very similar pile and glued them over the worn area. It looks just like factory fitted mats now.

I am in the process of having mine done at the moment, I am using trimline, they are replacing the leather on the drivers seat part (as its cracked far too much to repair) then the backrest and the passenger seat are getting what they call re-conolised bringing back the original colour and coating it again so they should look like new. They are magnolia with blue piping, the cost is £230 and it takes 3 days. They are picking the seats up next week so if anyone knows a better way please let me know too. I will post pics when they are done!

Later

Look forwrad to seeing the before and after photos. My leather is in generally v good nick, so the re-conolising is the type of thing I was looking for. Sounds reasonable if they are replacing leather for that.

Cheers

Lurch,
Yes I think if its only re-conolising its about £100 I think, maybe a little less. The bulk of the cost was for new leather and the trimmer to match it up, I will post before and after pics within a few weeks!

I use a combination of AutoGlym leather cleaner and Liquid Leather. I do find Liquid Leather the better one of the two(it does attract fly's unfortunately at car shows !)

I have tried most stuff to bring up the leather and the I can 100% recommend SADDLE SOAP - its cheap (any local horse shop) and IT WORKS brilliantly, it wont restore your colour but IT WILL clean and revive it ..... TOP STUFF!

Works well on the vinyl too!

Sorry to hijack this thread, but talking of seats - any cheap/easy ideas? My driver's seat is collapsing a bit under my right 'cheek' - not much, but my back's knackered so easily noticed. I assume it needs re-stuffing? If I swapped seats over, would the reclining mechanism end up on the inside edge, or does the seat come away from the frame?

BTW agree with above re: saddle soap. The previous owner fed the seats twice a year. They may look a little creased, but there are no cracks - all in good nick.

After undoing the four bolts through the floor, the seat comes out as a complete unit, so if you swap them over the adjuster will be next to the transmission tunnel.

Mike... i'd be very interested in seeing the results too. I am likely to buy a lovely S1 very soon and the only thing wrong with it is the seats. Was this for 1 seat or the pair?

are the bolt holes for the seats in the same template pattern for each side.....i.e are they handed similarly?? Wouldnt mind swapping mine over too..

The layout of the bolts appears to be symmetrical on both seats, so I guess they'd be interchangeable, although I don't know if there'd be room for the reclining handle between the seat and the tunnel.

Be warned though, I had to use a nut splitter on the outer rear nut on both sides, so be prepared (I've now replaced these with galvanised bolts!).

My seats are going in to have some leather replaced and be re-connolised this week so I will post before and after photos for you. Didnt go with Trimline in the end as they P***ed me about, the agent in Cambridgeshire is a bit of a To**er, shame as I used trimline in Surrey and they were great!!! I am using a trimmer over in Ipswich and will let you know what sort of job he does!

you can put either seat on either side but it is a bit of a problem adjusting the back rest.
