Hi all,
I've never posted in the Jaguar forum before, but have just bought myself a 1995 XJR in Turquoise with only 33K miles on it, and am truly chuffed to bits with it. Loved Jags for a long time and have owned a 3.6 XJS manual in the past, so not completely new to them. I'll be keeping this car for many years though that's for sure. A guy who has owned several of these looked it over the other night and pronounced it a beautiful example, which was encouraging. For anyone who may have seen it, this was the one on ebay recently.
Anyway, the point of my post - there is no CD changer in the car, but the tape/radio head unit is one that can run a changer. Does anyone know if the necessary wiring loom will be behind the trim in the boot? I'm hoping someone can save me pulling it all out to look. If so, is it just a case of buying a suitable Jaguar one then plug and play? I know I'll also need a different piece of boot trim but I can sort that - good old ebay. I believe I would need a changer with wire connections rather than the later fibre ones?

When I bought mine it didn't have the autochanger, but I wanted one. I seem to remember the service manager saying they were easy to just drop in. I'll try at take a look at it in the morning and let you know what the connections look like.

Congrats by the way. At that rate it'll only take you another 6 years for it to be run in :-) And I was thinking my 94 X300 was a low mileage one with 60K on the clock.

My old XJR had the necessary wiring already in place. CD changer did not take many minutes for chap to fit.

Thanks guys, so it looks good for a simple fitment then. Where would the factory have fitted one - I thought it would be on the nearside in the boot and would use different trim? The fitment in the picture looks a really good idea though and would save me having to replace any trim.

Mine was fitted at the dealer, but it's in the same place. I think it was the later cars (X308 & X350) that had the changer in the side of the boot.

yes

6CYL cars have it positioned as above (not as neat but at least you dont have to buy a carper trim piece), Jag dealers will supply but it may be cheaper to get one from a specialist car audio place - the changers are made by Alpine i believe.

You often see them on eBay just search on Jaguar X300.

A bit of research suggested that an Alpine CHM-s630 changer will fit straight in. The Jaguar uses the same 8 pin M-Bus connector and Alpine manufacture the official changer anyway.
Just bought an Alpine changer on ebay for £48 delivered - apparently brand new and boxed. I'll let you all know how I get on once I try to fit it.

Update as promised: The changer arrived and was brand new/sealed as described. I have just finished fitting it. The mountings needed to be played with before I could use the correct Jaguar mounting points. But that was the only problem. The changer plugged straight in to the Jaguar connector and works perfectly. So, an Alpine CHM-S630 is a suitable unit, and I now have a brand new 6 disc changer for less than £50. Refurb the wheels next I think smile
