Been knocking around on avforums.com and everyone's flattered by the new Pioneer which is circa £2.8-3k. Samsung do a PS50P96FDX for around £1500 which seems a steel! Anyone got one??

I think the new Pioneers are overpriced and overrated.. I couldnt tell the difference - I bought a Panny TH58PZ8700 instead and got 8" more for the same money wink ..the 50" version is about £1700

you can get half decent 50" for £1000 these days so theres no way Id pay £3K for the latest and greatest.

The above is simply misleading because whilst the Panasonic kit is truly excellent vfm, the Pioneers easily outperform and a reasonable demo should reveal the superiority in about 5 seconds.

To be absolutely honest, the whole 1080p thing is grossly overplayed and is essentially nothing more than marketing hype to push sales of HD-DVD and BR.
Unless you sit almost on top of the screen, you'll be hard pressed to notice the difference in resolution compared to regular HD upscaled to the panel's native 1366x768 pixels, or even 1080p downscaled.

Save your money and 'make do' with the Pioneer 508 in standard HD, and you'll be more than happy for the next lot of years - just makes sure to get it calibrated professionally after the initial 1-200 hours of usage.

If you have 3K burning a hole in your pocket, then grab the Fujitsu 50" - standard HD res - which the Pioneer runs very close to by all accounts.
Forget Samsung/LG, unless it's a mobile phone - and even then........

Subjectively, I have some empathy for what you say but when it comes to the LX series, they are in a different league.

Maybe not 'worth it' but then Ruft RT12 owners don't worry about ticket values: LX punters are not badge victims just individuals who can afford the best.

This Pioneer must be good - off tho John Lewis to take a look scratchchin BUT the only drawback with this is that it comes with no speakers! I'd not want the Mrs and kids trying to get sound through my Bose Lifestyle 24/7 - need something with speakers so that they can view/hear normal TV when i'm not around...

The optional speakers for my Pioneer were £300 too so they're probably similar. Do sound very good especially considering they're so thin.

I am helping out in a high end AV store at the moment (beween jobs) and there is a 50" Kuro on the rear wall that is stunning. The blacks are a black as the bezzel round it and to me the images are crisp and lifelike.

BUT as with anything they must be set up properly to get the best performance.

Oh, and there is a free 5 year warrantee on them if purchased before Christmas.

Anyone got one of these?

http://www.kelkoo.prcdirect.co.uk/showproduct.php?...

Saw it in action today and it's madness! Cheaper and bigger than the Pioneer too and can do mostly everything the Pioneer can.

If you're happy to compromise a bit, then work away, but we've already advised you on what to do.
You'll not appreciate the difference in resolution - trust me, you WON'T.
You'll appreciate the truer black levels and higher CR (contrast ratio) the Pioneer will produce.
Get the Pio or Fujitsu, and you'll be the envy of your friend's, family, and neighbours, who'll all tell you theirs looks just as good for half the money. Trust me when I say they'll be lying gits, and wish theirs was as good as yours.
There's a reason the Pio 8th gen and Fujitsu are talked about in AVForums the way they are - they're the best you can buy.
Yes, it'll cost some more on speakers if you don't want to use the Bose - which I have to question the reasoning behind buying it, if size wasn't part of the equation.
For size and quality, you should've gone for the Anthony Gallos or on-wall Artcoustics.
Size isn't everything, and you've not enlightened us as to what sources you'll be using, or what distance you'll be sat from it.

Hope that helps.
