Fixed penalty notice issued twice for same offence!!!!!!
Discussion
just been pulled over by the traffic police for having black number plates..
tried to act dumb saying because it was a private plate and older than 1974 thought i could have it... promptly told vehilce needs to be that old..
but unbelievably they gave me two fixed penalty notices one for the front plate the other for the rear!!! means reported to dvla twice for same offence..... is this legal!!!
whats more is was the same pesky police officer who stopped me in my new lambo last month one hour after i left the showroom and was tryingto seize the vehicle because it came up on the system that i had no insurance obviously hadnt updated quick enough!!
where do i stand in this matter?

I don't think this is right. Issue of 2 FPNs is not allowed IIRC from my training (I admittedly didn't pay much attention as FPNs are not my cup of tea). If you have 2 offences the officer has a choice - summons for all offences, FPN for one and verbal warn the other (usually the more minor) or issue a verbal warning for both.
I think I'm right in saying you can't issue 2 tickets from one encounter.
DVD - any ideas?

It's the same as a tyre offence. If you've got two dodgy tyres, you'll be getting two tickets.
If you've two dodgy tyres, a court will be giving you one penalty - in fact generally they just do one offence in each area - construction, moving traffic, etc So two bald tyres and a light out will get you just the one dose of 60 + 3pts + costs + victim fund tax.The OP is bang to rights, but I can't see why no VDRS was issued.

hes got you banged to rights
but an official complaint cant hurt as he has it in for you
Ah the official complaint! I don't know why so many people on here think that this is the answer or why they think that BiB getting on with what they are paid for could care less .but an official complaint cant hurt as he has it in for you
A formal complaint would serve to do two things, firstly show you are annoyed at being caught commiting an offence and secondly tell the officers supervisor that the cop is doing his job in accordance with government guidelines.
Admittedly from what has been described the cop sounds a little overzealous and I couldn't see myself dealing with it in this manner.
That said we only have one side of the story but regardless of whether you agree or not he can easily justify it. Any complaint made would go no further than into the nearst shredder as no grounds for a complaint exist.

You're aware that they're illegal yet you continue to display them (and use them to avoid paying the congestion charge) - accept that you're going to get penalised, go to court, and hope the magistrate is in a good mood. And, er, don't show them your posting history
I think it goes like this....BiB see flash motor with obviously In your face illegal plates. Not just minor spacings or bolts in the wrong place or italics etc - but BLACK plates!!
Doh!
Like driving around with a sign on the roof saying "I'm a serial Killer"
you're going to get nicked for so blatantly flouting the law.
The only cherished plates that are cool are the 100% legal ones in my book

Ouch, must have been missing his quota for the day....! I wonder sometimes - I spent 3 years in Cornwall driving around with dodgy plates (no screws, just some light squashing - still easily readable) past numerous police cars and nothing, 1 week in sussex and £30 fine when I had legal plates in the boot and offered to change them there and then and was very polite!! Still, thankful it was only 1 offence for mine - must have known you had the money for two.....

The new ACPO FPN Guidance gives officers and members of the wider police family the ability to issueI think I'm right in saying you can't issue 2 tickets from one encounter.

multiple fixed penalties up to a maximum of three FPNs with no more than one endorsable FPN
within the three.
The law is explicit on this matter and under different sections
deals specifically as to what has to be displayed not only at the rear of the vehicle but also at the front. Therefore if both plates wrong - two offences so one cannot claim duplicity.
