There is no easy way of saying this :-

Lawrence died on Sunday.

He had been ill for a couple of months battling an aggressive cancer.

The funeral arrangements are:

11.00am on Friday 14 December
Morton Hall Crematorium
Howden Hall Road
Edinburgh
EH16 6TX

and afterwards at
Swanston Golf Club
Swanston Road
Edinburgh
EH10 7DS

Katrina has asked that it be known that all friends are welcome - I am sure that a good number from here will want to attend.

Not the news we wanted to hear, even though we knew it was going to happen.

Thank you Fergus for posting here - I have circulated the Scottish championships entrants with the news of the sad death of this former Scottish Sprint Champion and details of the funeral arrangements and I think there will be a large turn out wishing to pay their respects.

RIP Lawrence

Truly sad news.

Shocking how quickly things developed.

My abiding memory of Lawrence was at one of my first events at Kames. He hadn't been to Kames for a wee while and I think the car had had some major work in the interim. After his first run, I was standing near the finish. As he entered the paddock, he put his visor up and even though I was some way away, I could still, clearly, hear him laughing like a mad person.

He'll be missed a great deal.

My favourite motorsport story was one involving some advice Lawrence had given me at Forrestburn several years ago. Too long for here but it always makes me smile and I am sure will do so for many more years. A fine competitor whose passing is a sad loss. Roy

I don't want to appear insensitive but I wasn't involved with the Sprint scene so I'm not familiar with the guy - has anyone got any links to anything biographical?

He wasn't a famous man but he was a great man

But this might help to paint a picture

If only for the laughter at the end

There was always laughter around Lawrence

What a great shame. Very sorry to hear the news. Knew Lawrence only through talking with him at motorsport events, but always found him a charming and helpful man, very knowledgable and a fine competitor with superbly finished cars.
