arming the alarm.. am i mad???????

I have a 97 R reg Cerb with a Ross meta alarm fob thingy. .. when I get out of the car the imobiliser comes on in a matter of seconds..

can I increase this delay?

so when i get out of the car if I'm quick enough (which is never)the alarm will arm first press 4 flshes of the indicators no noise. If i miss this window of opportunity it takes around 3 or 4 preses to get it armed.

Now the first press seems to get the imobiliser off again and you could start the car again at this point..

after another press or two.. it then arms

is this normal and does anyone else see this odd behaviour? Am I just doing it wrong?
(quite possible as according to the missus not only am i getting that wrong I also can't load a dishwasher correctly; tidy up or spend more than 10 minutes without going out to the garage ...:-)_

it is almost totally consistant and has never failed to work or anything I just find it curious???????

All sounds fairly normal to me. The delay from switching off the engine to the immobiliser arming should be just under 30 seconds (it has to be this short to be classified a category 1 alarm). As far as I know, there is no way of altering the delay though....

I just wait till I'm ready to get out the car (seat belt off etc) before switching off....

Try holding the button down for a sec or two seems to work on mine.

jj99 is right. Quick press to disarm alarm and deactivate the immobiliser, press and hold to activate central locking and arm the alarm.

I used to have problems. Pressing for 1sec certainly remedied things. This is all outlined on pages 22-23 of the owners manual.

I agree with all of the points above.

In addition to this.....mysteriously....I have discovered that I cannot arm my alarm in the car park of Colchester hospital, or in the road directly outside Essex radio in Southend!! I can only attribute this to the big radio antennae on their roofs messing up the signal. Does this sound right?

Ok,only had the car a few days but have noticed the alarm flashes 4 times when set and also the green locking button flashes fast. Its a 4.2 'R is this correct ?

That's the same as mine and as per the hand book.

Still no audible alarm working so on the trail of that one...

Sat in the car and got the missus to alarm the car and then I set off the interior sensors which triggered the alarm, so that seems to work fine. My handbook says that four flashes (which I get) when setting the alarm means fault and also the fast flashing door locking light also means fault, but having said that it all locks and seems to alarm !!

yep, mine gives four flashes but i'm sure it should only be three if all was ok. my siren doesn't work though, i think it's been disconnected somewhere (probably when somebody tried to change the battery)

I think there is some confusion over the alarm....

The hand book is wrong with regard to the 4 (or 3) flashes. They changed something, which means they should flash 4 times (even though the hand book says this means there is a fault).

The siren CAN'T be turned off. But it doesn't (& shouldn't) chirp when you arm the system. The siren only makes a noise when the alarm is going off.

Hi Olly.
How do you trigger the alarm in that case?

I sat inside mine, locked it and got the four flashes.
Waited a few minutes and opened the door from inside
and all the lights went off but no alarm?

Presume you used the emergency opening ?

If you did, you should have got an almighty blast from the drivers rear wheel arch (where the siren is located). It's possible that the siren has been drowned.....

Just tried that and there was a deafening.... silence.

Better have someone look at it - any suggestions?
Does it have to be a TVR specialist or will any alarm
company be ok?

I'm hoping it's just the siren has lost it's voice. Remove the drivers rear wheel & you'll see the siren. I have no idea how it's attached, but knowing TVR it's just screwed into the body. Remove it & try putting a 6V battery on it (put in ear plugs, it's NOISY when it works), if it makes a noise, then there is a problem with the alarm, if still no noise (which I'm hoping will be the case), just buy a new siren & replace.
