amber engine light and poor performance message 97 XK8

I took the plunge and got myself an XK8. Unfortunately a private sale although i do have a transferable warranty with the car. Drove fine on the test drive and their were Jag receipts for a recent new gearbox/new timing tensioners fitted in 2004 only 20k miles ago.

Car has been running fine for a couple of days but today the engine fault message comes up which alternates a message saying poor performance.

The car appears to be running fine although slightly juddery if you just select Drive and take your foot off the brake and let it move slowly.

Currently crapping it that I have just bought a car that is completely F**cked! Has anyone else ever had this problem? Hoping it's not terminal!

The symptoms suggest a gearbox fault of somekind, although that would cause a transmission fault light to come on, rather than engine fault.

I'd suggest taking it to a local independant specialist to diagnose.

sounds like you have a missfire there bud, known for coil packs going down and i had one the other day which just needed a set of plugs and she was fine. best book it into a garage to be safe though if your not confident doing it yourself.
