High Speed Runs

Does anyone know of where the nearest airstrip or similar is to me (North - East London) where I can take my Cerbera for some high speed runs??

I've heard North Weald do something like this but don't have any details. Will it be long enough??

Also, is there anything I need to take with me, apart from a spare set of pants!!!

Get in touch with your local TVRCC they arranged one down on Shoreham airport in Sussex a few weeks back.

About 30 Tiv,s had several single spurts down a 5/8th runway during the coarse of the evening, topped of with a buffet to end the evening.

On a similar note, how does the bonnet manage at 180mph? Only at 90 it can bounce up and down a bit. I dread to think what it would be like at twice that!!

Edited to say: I'm sure that someone has done it though, and the bonnet was still in-situ at the end of the runway. Whether he could see where he was going courtesy of the wind induced Bonnet Bulge is another can of worms entirely

Might consider the trip up to Bruntingthorpe as there will be other things going on as well.

Reached approx ton fifty little while ago with no bonnet probs, saying that, wasn't paying much attention to the bonnet at that speed.

Oh, bbt11 - I have a V8 not an S6, Ha Ha.

north weald normally has 2 or 3 events during the year , but its normally just the 1/4 mile drag. every time i went last year it rained, mind you i didn't have the cerb then. normally you get loads of bikes and cars turn, not a bad day out. i think they have a web site as well.

I got to around 160 in a TMS car at the last
Bruntingthorpe day and thought I'd best back off.

Can't say I had an eye on the bonnet.

I was recently at Oakington (ex-RAF base) near Cambridge (with RideDrive) - that will not be too far from you. No good for "high speed runs" though as it's an airstrip, so it's short. Wonderful for donuts, power-slides, torque-steering, etc however.

No additional prep to the car required (other than the usual fluid/oil levels and tire pressure checks). Car behaved beautifully.

BigT. Why not come along to the Palmersport track day at Beford Autodrome on 2 August? You should see 150 odd on the straight and you get to do corners too!

Yup, and absolutely no problems with the bonnet or any other part of the car.

In fact more bits fell off the 996 & 993 Turbos than mine.

How on earth did you get such a good picture of the speedo?

We did much the same speed on the first run at Bruntingthorpe...just over 170 and I decided to try for a speedo shot on the second run, but I was shaking so much that the shot wasn't brilliant....

It wasn't with terror either...I love the straights, it's the bendy bits I'm not so keen on!!!!!...

I took along the expert rude girl as a passenger & photographer.

That and the silky smooth ride of the Cerbera.

Pity she wasn't there with the camera on the highest speed run (an indicated 185 ).

No snazzy gloves for me, just white knuckles. Unfortunately my camera man had none of Rude Girls talents!

Popping bonnets is definitely an issue though and a number of cars at Elvington that day ended up with a lot of gaffer tape to keep it down. Joolz as a fix for the lock rods which are weak and basically a daft design.

As you say - You need to be prepared to break your bonnet, have your wipers lift off the screen, and expect the front of your car to look like it has been machine gunned. - I did elvington, and quite frankly after one run, been there done that. - track days are a much better challenge, and the circuit is clean so your car does not end up needing a respray.
