Anyone on here experienced problems with 2nd? - Seems a little crunchy on the swift changes and seems to be getting worse....Just curious if this is common?

Yep mines been gone for over a year now.. I just havent had the time to fix it. Plenty of parts available from ebay.com there is a seller there that does nothing else but gearbox repair kits and the complete kit with all the synchros is about $470. Then you will need second gear itself and the price varies from $100 for a pattern to $400 to an OEM part. Have a look herebiggrin

Unless you have been very abusive and it is shifting terribly, its highly unlikely you would need to replace 2nd gear.

Perhaps the baulk rings...but gears....not so much.

Try a different oil first.

Cheers chaps - Which oil would you recommend? The cars only covered 10k miles so wouldn't have expected this so early in it's life...

Hello,

Yes, to be honest on my 06 CV8 the second gear is a pain in the behind. Terrible from cold but gets better when warm (so in this weather never good), was like that from new and sometimes really winds me up (short height gearshaft made it feel worse though).

Cheers
Steven

I used Fuchs ATF4000 in my first box. I never had any shifting problems.

When I got a fully built T56 from the US, I bought some Mainlube 154 for it.....a tad pricey though. Its an Aussie made oil.
In terms of shift quality....no difference from the standard box with Fuchs ATF. But I just wanted what I believed to be the best oil for it in terms of protection against damage..

The Aussie's seem to love Castrol Transmax Z too...which would be in a keener price range.
