Hi was wondering if it is a safe bet if i was to increase the boost of the turbo on my gti turbo. I dont want to make the car unreliable. If anyone has done this or knows anyone who has i would appreciate any information on it. Thankyou

Yours a 150? If so it has a K03 turbo and is safe to an absolute maximum of about 200 BHP. Changing to a K03s or K04 would be needed if you want any more than that.

Simply increasing the boost is probably not a good idea.

A remap will often alter a few other settings aswell so as the car can cope. More often than not it will alter the fuelling pattern.

Im thinking of getting it remaped aswell once i have increased the boost. Dont want to increase it too much though as i know this could damage the car

I run the 150bhp engine in my mk2 golf, you can wind the boost up on the standard k03 turbo to around 14psi with the correct mapping. Which is what I have done and released another 50 ponies! The next step up is a k03s or k04 turbo which will get you to around 270bhp. Or the IHI conversion which will get you the far side of 300....

Ive heard custom code or revo are the best remaps to get people tend to have different ideas of which is best. Alot of people i know prefer the revo's. Stage 1 will usually get the bhp up to anywhere between 180-200bhp depending on year of the car etc, but ive heard you need a silicon turbo intake pipe as the standard one can sometimes collapse (suck in) from running higher boost. Stage 2 usually requires a front mounted intercooler, 4 bar fuel regulator (i think it is anyway) and a 3 inch downpipe back to get between usually about 210-240. If you have a KO3s you can usually get more bhp ive heard between 240-270. Then stage 3 ive heard you need to change injectors and inlet manifolds and stuff like that. IHI is the way to go for big power but can involve uprated internals so can cost quite a bit, A couple of friends with ihi conversions one with a mk2 and another with a mk2 synchro are meant to be pushing nearly 400 bhp with these! None of these figures are for definate but are just what ive heard from speaking to people!
